Good ride with many great roads between you and there. Hwy 80 out of Marion, NC to the Blue Ridge Parkway is a great ride as well as the Little Switzerland Loop. both connect to the BRP so you can take it down to Asheville to get back on I-40 if you wish.
If you are in the area in September the 10-12 there is the Cherokee Survivors Rally in Cherokee NC going on. Also Thunder in the Smokies in Maggie Valley the same weekend. 2 great rallies in one area with great riding all around. Just a thought for you.
The Dragon is cool but, keep in mind that just about any 2 lane black top in the area will be just as fun and not as crowded with ricers
I was there this spring and one thing you should check out before you plan your trip is rock slides. there was one on the TN side of the dragon when I was there last. you could ride the Dragon from the NC side but you could not get into TN. I dont think they were in any hurry to get the road fixed so check out the DOT sites before you plan your trip
Cherohala skyway is also a great ride that can be done in conjunction with the dragon. 209 from Waynesville NC to Hot springs is also a great ride and Just as wild as the dragon in my opinion.

It is open during the day but not at night at this time.
The Cherohala skyway is a great ride If you make it to that area MAKE sure you get to Maggie Valley Go to (Wheels Through Time ) Closed Tue and Wed . Worth the trip and Maggie Valley was one of the most reasonable places to stay. Around 50 bucks a night for motels around there . If you go to WTT ask Matt ( Owners son) for some rides in that area He will put youone some rides better than the dragon with less people. The big plus is that you will seem some great history at there place and the Stories that go along with it are great . Check out there web site. We spent a week(That went by way too Fast) in the Tenn NC and SC area did about 900 miles in the Mountians all back roads. And you never Know who you will run into A pic of the wife with the G man himself
In the Maggie Valley area there is the Carolina Harley Dealers Rally the weekend of 17-18 Sept 10. This is the weekend after the Cherokee Survivors Rally and the Thunder in the Smokies Rally. Less folks but still a good little rally to attend.
