Default Heading Around Lake Superior in the morning

Seeing as I live on the shore of Lake Superior it only stands to reason that I should ride around the lake every couple of years. I thought I would post here to see if anyone has words of wisdom or encouragement. It is only a three day trip, but I will update the post as time/internet service permits.
We are leaving in the morning and riding from Duluth MN-Terrace Bay Ont. The second day will bring us to Sault St. Marie MI, and the final leg will be from there back to Duluth.
If anyone has any information on road construction or cool places to stop, let me know. Keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

Erik

Couple of stops in Michigan. Once you come over to US side through the Saulte, head towards Brimley and along the shore through Bay Mills and towards m-123 and Paradise check out the falls(Tahquamenon) area. Stay on m-123 back towards m-28 then west. m28 towards Munising(boring) and Marquette(Big Bay is nice ride but only one way in/out). Head up us 41 towards Houghton/Hancock after you cross the bridge look for a sign for the town of Gay( have a break at the Gay Bar) and then head north along the shore, great ride. You'll run back into 41. Turn right(north) towards Copper Harbor, you'll be at the tip of the Keweenaw. Take the road up to Brockway Mt., great views up there. Head out on m26 towards Eagle River then back down to us 41, great winding road. Another little side road is 203 towards Calumet then back. If you get a chance from there head towards Ontonagon(m38) and down towards Silver City and the Porkupine Mts., check out Lake of the Clouds great views.

Ride safe and have fun!

Make sure you stop in WAWA... great little town. A bit north of the Soo.

So I have returned.

We really didn't have time to stop at very many places in the UP on the way back. We had to drive straight through from the "Soo" (420 or so miles) We stopped at the Clarke Motel in Eckerman though. You wouldn't think there is a reason to stop there until you meet the owner (Andy) This is my favorite stop when I make the trip around the lake. It is alot the like the Yooper Tourist Trap in Ishpeming, but is just one guy turning his property into something awesome and he loves bikes, bikers and Harleys. In one of his buildings he has built a replica of the original 1903 HD shop.
It was an awesome ride and weekend. Temps in the 80's and 90's. I started a blog before I left, but there was no cell service to update it along the way, so now I have a bunch of poictures I need to organize and post. I will post a link to the blog when I get it organized.
One thing that amazed me was the number of gas stations, diners, and motels that have closed down in the last two years. If you are thinking of doing this ride yet this fall and have questions, shoot me an email. Erikh425@yahoo.com.

My updates this far have been on my phone. I finally found time to sit at my computer. The first day was Duluth MN to Terrace Bay ONT. It is just over 300 miles and it seemed like the road work was pretty much ending. There were still spots of construction, but not bad. Day 2 was Terrace Bay to the "Soo". It was about 325 miles. We stopped at the general store in Wawa, and then found this cool waterfall just outside of Wawa. Some of the guys were not pleased that I turned down the road seeing as it is dirt/sand, but I am the Road Captain, they follow. Once we got there they said it was well worth it. The final day was the death march across the UP.
Here is a link to my blog. One of the guys that came along was a professional photographer, so I will be adding more photos when he sends them. The ones on the blog now were taken with my phone.

I just completed the same trip with 3 riding buddies. Left Minneapolis on Friday, stayed in Thunder Bay Ont. Friday, Sault Ste Marie Ont Saturday, Copper Harbor Michigan on Sunday and home Monday.

Michigan is blessed with very good roads, (at least where we were) and great scenery. Copper Harbor was great and I would reccommend the Harbor Haus restraunt.
