Just rode the Triple Nickel, Route 555 down in Southern Ohio, wow what a nice ride. Just about every type of unexpected corner, hill, and twisties you could expect and a perfect day to boot.
I havent rode the Dragons Tail yet so I can't compare the two but for a short day drive in Ohio we are sure spoiled with some nice roads to drive in the southern portion of the state....
If you get to Ohio and are looking for a nice road to ride you can't go wrong riding the Triple Nickel.
Rode that last year on the way back from the dragon. 555 is a nice road. It has the switchbacks similar to the dragon but nothing as severe. 555 is 55mph and the turns are spaced out way more than the dragon. The dragon is one turn after another with a 30mph speed limit. Both are fun.
i road that earlier this year, i was getting motion sickness from some of the rollers...only issue i had was some of the corners were like a dirt road with all the gravel on it.
We live 25 miles S.W. of the Triple. If you pass this way again, don't miss Rt. 26 from Marietta North. It is as twisty as 555 and goes thru the Wayne National Forest. The sideroads off of it are very remote and secluded. Also 145, 800, etc. This area of southeast Ohio has many excellant back roads. Look at www.motorcycleroads.us/oh
All of the roads that cobalt07 suggests are great. I would like to add a couple. S.R. 536 from near Woodsfield to Hannibal and S.R.821 from near Marietta to Cambridge. Also you might like to try S.R. 78 from McConnelsville to Nelsonville on a crisp fall foliage ride. Anywhere in the Hocking Hills area is good. Journey safely.
A few of us from my HOG chapter may head over to the triple nickel from Indiana in a few weeks (Oct 23 weekend). We are starting to plan a 2 night, 3 day trip to southern Ohio for that weekend. It will depend on the weather though. We're thinking about riding the slab over to Ohio and then head down 555. Some other guy is doing most of the planning, so I don't know yet where we will go from there. He did mention something about a town along the Ohio River...
Yep you can pick up 555 out of Zanesville off I-70 and run it all the way to Little Hocking on the Ohio. Lots of miles of twisting turning roadery.......
Mike, you can definately drag your boards on 536. Been ther and done it several times. There is one hairpin soooooo sharp, that they had to put a stop sing up to keep people from going into the brush. Some could manage to go down the county road, but you never know where the gravel will be on it.
