Anybody here planning on attending this event in Rocky Point? 10th Anniversary! The wife and I are headed down for a few days of fun. Let us know if you might be around!
There are a couple of us heading down from New Mexico (Albuquerque area). Our plan is to leave here early Wednesday morning and be on Calle 13 (or somewhere on the Malecon) Wednesday night. Thursday (late morning) we should be racing across the packed sand road to JJs for beer and fish tacos. After that .doing whatever comes up next until early Sunday morning when we head for the border and home.
I'll be down that way then, unfortunately HD rentals won't let you take their bikes to Mexico. Guess I'll have to stay this side of the border, always wanted to go to Rocky Point.
been going down for the last few years. headed down on Thur morning. the fish market is a great place to check out all the bikes and action, but we tend to stay away from the staged events.
You picked an interesting rally for your first. The rules in Mexico are a little more than loose, and the strip at the fish market is an interesting and wild place. Last year I saw a family of 4 on a single motorcycle. The kids were like 1 and 3 years old… and this was on the city streets… CRAZY!!!
If you havent been there before start looking for speed bumps as soon as you cross the border. Youll be sick of them before you get out of Sonita (if you are going that way) and they are all over Rocky Point as well. My first trip down I was pulling a trailer behind my bike that a speed bump (hidden in the shade of a tree) sent flying into the air!! The guys behind me got a kick out of that .and slowed down in time!!
Fun time though and we stay away from the staged events as well. This will be our 5th year and we kinda use the rally as an excuse to go and then do our own thing.
A little clarification to my first post - Ive read that the fish market area (Malecon) has been rebuilt and is still under construction. Apparently they have made some significant changes that Im interested to see. In my humble opinion its OK to drive down there Thursday and Friday but we park a block away and walk down there on Saturday. It does get crazy Saturday afternoon!!
Id also recommend getting direction to Cholla Bay and finding JJs Cantina if you like relaxing while drinking beer under shade trees looking out over the bay. Once you get past the Condos of Rocky Point its a packed sand road but it rides really nice. Watch for loose spots (soft sand) once you get into Cholla Bay though. And yes there is a speed bump as you enter or exit Cholla Bay as well.
Calle 13 gets pretty crowded at night (especially Friday night)...if you are looking for a crowd. I can't speak for Saturday night as we usually make it a early night in preparation for Sundays long ride home. The Camel Toe Cantina is just one block off of Calle 13 and always has something going on. Some bar owners we met last year have a new place on the end of Calle 13 called the Sunset Cantina that we're looking forward to see.
There are lots of other things to do and I'm pretty sure you'll have a good time no matter what you deside to do. Enjoy
+1 on every spot Charlie threw out there. A man that sounds like he's been down a few times over the years. Couple of other items to keep in mind. Make sure you bring your passport, and pick up some Mexican Auto Insurance. You're not covered in Mexico on your existing policy. 4 days will run ya 60 to 70 bucks. Have fun.
i took a HD rental to this rally, just get the Mexican insurance.
I took off the lp bracket saying "rental".
I didnt have a problem.
