Default North Carolina trip Info Request

Not ever posted in this forum but I have a question. Please let me know if I need to go somewhere else (I am constantly being told where to go so I can handle it )

I am planning a golf trip to North Carolina and want to ship my clubs so I can ride the Ultra down from Michigan. How many days road time (there and back) should I plan for? I am new to the Touring class bikes and could use any advice. I take the trip in the cage often enough that I know the route and it usually totals about 12 hours drive time w/ fuel stops. I've done a couple of 350 mile 1-day trips with no problems on the bike.

Thanks

I did Toronto to Deals Gap in N.C. in 2 days. Day one I rode 500 miles ( Toronto to Florence Kentucky just south of Cinncinati) and the remainder on an easy day 2.

I did Charlotte, NC to York, PA in a day in August., 528 miles. So far, that was my longest trip in a single day. It wasn't too bad. I ran all interstate, set the cruise and let the big dog eat. Left at 6:45am and I was at Laugerman's H-D less than 2 miles from the York factory at 4:30pm. Made 5 stops that day, 3 for fuel, one for lunch and one to stretch.

Two days should be no problem for you, especially if you travel mainly on the superslab. It's not as scenic but when you've got a bit of a deadline it's what you have to do. And the H-D Touring bikes are very good at eating up large chunks of highway. You'll make more stops than you do in your cage, butt breaks and fuel stops.

I did Wisconsin to South Carolina (Myrtle Beach) this past May in two days--about 1100 miles. Your trip should be a little shorter than mine so two days should be a breeze. If you get the time, do a portion of the Blue Ridge Parkway. No matter what route you take, you're gonna cross it anyway and it's well worth a few hours of riding. Check it out here: www.blueridgeparkway.org

Sorry guys, my ISP has blocked HDForums email and I didn't know I was still getting responses. The plan has changed in that I decided I'd rather ride than play golf. I am leaving for Nashville on the 18th then doing the Cherohala Skyway ride (H-D Great Rides recommendation) into NC. I'll visit with the friends I WAS going to golf with then head back with the Blue Ridge in mind if all goes well. Back to work on the 24th.[:@]

I did 355 miles this past Sat and 402 on Sun trying to build up the ole butt muscles (I am sure you guys could care less about that ). Quite a bit of stops in those miles so when I do the highways I am confident I can do 5-600/day and still have time for the beer when I put in for the night!

All this is subject to weather ... it is snowing here today!!! [sm=noooo.gif] ... hopefully I won't be spending the time winterizing grrrr.

You'll be fine. 600 mile days are a snap on a bike like yours. We rode back from Sturgis, to Central NY, via Nebraska, Iowa, Indiana, etc. and did it in three days - no problem.

Like others have said, time your rest breaks with fuel stops and before you know it, you'll be pulling into the hotel each afternoon.

If you're going to ride the Cherohala Skyway, you absolutely MUST ride the Tail of the Dragon if you have not rode it. 318 curves in 11 miles, voted the best mc road in the country. Come off the Cherohala, go to Robbinsville then onto Hwy 28 and on to US129. Well worh the time and effort.

Enjoy the ride
