Hi guys
we are looking at coming over and hiring a harley. what to do Grand cannon , Zion park etc . were is the best place to usea base to do this type of trip and whats ther best time of the year to come.
Greetings!,
I would recommend the last 2 weeks of June thru August for time. As far as a base, not sure because I don't know your schedule, you could spend several days at the N.Rim of the Canyon, etc.
I would recommend a visit to the G. Canyon, Zion and Bryce Canyon, which is just N.East of Zion. I would also recommend a trip up hwy 12 to Torrey, then 24 east to Hanksville. Utah has several great parks to see, Ride safe!l

That is a ride you would never forget, it is stunning. If you end up in Las Vegas check out Hoover Dam and the new bridge there, only about 1/2 hour from Vegas

hi speedfreak, see you've received good advice already. I've been in the area only in a cage, but +1 on Zion National Park. I would also recommend Bryce Canyon National Park, which is a couple of hours away from Zion. If you're feeling it, Las Vegas is only about three hours away from Zion (couple more from Bryce). We were there in August, pretty d*mn hot but still had a great time. Can't give any Grand Canyon advice, but the two parks are beautiful, I want to go back. I hope that you have a great visit from the UK, wherever you decide to go.
double down and split 8's. there is a ton of better places to start than vegas.
I'd start in Phoenix AZ and run Hwy 89A north towards GC, Zion and Monument Valley. A nice section of Rt 66 is up that way too, btwn Williams and Kingman then on to Oatman AZ. IMO AZ has better riding than most of NV. You'll just need to stay in the higher elevations in the summer to avoid the heat.
thanks guys
We see us basing in one hotel for all our stuff then ride out daily and if the mood take us stay over night and then ride on . just need to know the best town in which to start so we can do as much as possible.
You will be both lower and higher elevations. It's going to be *hot* from mid June through August in Las Vegas, Phoenix, St George, and the other low elevations in Utah. My preference would be late May through mid-June, or late August through September.
If you fly in and start in Phoenix, get out of the heat by heading north to Flagstaff. At 7,000' it'll be cooler and it's a nice town to base out of. Check out Jerome and Sedona. While your there two great curvy and scenic rides are 89 from Cottonwood to Prescott Valley and 89A from Prescott down into Peoples Valley. From Flagstaff it's a short (couple hours) up to the south entrance to the Grand Canyon.
For the next base head north to the north entrance to the Grand Canyon and spend a day there.
From there, on up into southern Utah maybe Kanab or Springdale. Springdale is right at Zion so it'll be a little more touristy and expensive but it's nice. From either town you can do day riding loops. Also there are some nice hiking trails at Zion (just do a search) if you want to stay there a few days.
Leaving Springdale I'd take 89 north to Rt 12 then 12 to Torrey for another base. You'll ride through Red Canyon and past Bryce Park on this road. (May want to hang around Bryce?) After a day or two in Torrey either; ride 24 east to Hanksville, 95 south to Blanding, then north to Moab for a base. From there see Canyonlands PK and Arches.
Or head back toward the St George area and visit Hoover Dam and Lake Meade which is close to Las Vegas and a day from Phoenix. This area will be pretty warm in the summer.
