Default Niagara Falls - Canada

We are planning on a road trip this summer riding from New Jersey into the Finger Lakes region of NY and then on into Canada Niagara Falls region. Aside from our passports (which we have), how is it going through customs on a motorcycle? I seem to remember that the lines are pretty long coming back into the United States. Are there any special lanes for bikes? Just curious.

No special lanes for bikes. The bridges are all very busy in the summer.

In my opinion here are the preferred crossings:

1. Coming from the Finger Lakes area follow the signs to Buffalo and use the Peace Bridge into Ft Erie Ontario, then follow the Q.E.W. highway or the Niagara River Parkway north to Niagara Falls.

2. The alternative is to head into Niagara Falls NY and use the Rainbow Bridge into Niagara Falls Ont.

3. Try to avoid the 190N to Lewiston. The Queenston-Lewiston Bridge typically has the longest wait times (1-2hrs is not uncommon)

The Whirlpool Bridges is for NEXUS card holders only. If you don't know what that is, don't worry - you can't go there.

As far as going through Customs, it shouldn't be a problem. Remove your sunglasses, hand the Officer your passports, and answer the questions. They have on occasion asked my wife to remove her FF helmet.

Going back into the US I would recommend Rainbow Bridge then Peace Bridge.

Do not try to bring firearms in - for the most part there is no concealed carry in Canada.

Weekends are busiest, 12 noon til 8pm is busiest, July 1st-4th will make you want to pull your hair out.

Enjoy.

I did Niagara Falls last summer. I found it easier to get out of the country than to get back in. Canadian border guards were business like but courteous. The American guy I had was rude and hostile for no other reason than that he could be.

I couldn't even get a "Welcome Home."

I live in Buffalo. Getting into Canada not a problem, agents are professional and courteous. US side, agents are dicks. I am retired military with a gov't id card and they are still asses
