Trip to GA, NC & TN booked, but have a map question
Just finished booking our bike trip for the middle of May and want to thank everyone for their suggestions and advice.
We will be starting from Marietta, GA, and riding to Robbinsville and spending a couple nights at the Iron Horse Inn, and riding as many of the roads as possible through that area, then ride around and spend a night in Maggie Valley. Then will be heading north on the BRP through Little Switzerland, through the Roan Mtns, and spending a night in Boone. Head back south to Helen, GA and finally back to Marietta.
The routing is basically done thanks to everyone's input and google maps.
Now, finally, the question ... I would like to bring a folding paper road map of the area, and was wondering if anyone knows where I can get one?
Check madmaps for that. I have one that shows the area just north of Atlanta up to Kentucky and Virginia, and it has some great suggestions for motorcycling thrown in.
Have you ever been to Helen Ga.? Beautiful town, but be prepared for traffic delays on week ends. I have family there, & can remember when it was just a little mill town. I still enjoy going there on the bike.
I try to eat lunch here, & watch all the tubes go by.
The Troll is another favorite place to eat, but usually a long wait for a table.
We'll be riding there on a Sunday (from Boone, NC) so I guess we'll just have to make the best of it.
It's not the end of the world, it's just crowded in Helen on weekends. If you're not in a hurry, that's not always a bad thing. Wife and I have made some great acquaintances just sitting on the patio of a restaurant there and talking to people.
