Default York Factory

Out for a ride yesterday and decided to stop in at the factory for a few minutes and decided to take the tour again. Was here last year and took it then. At this time you can still only tour the Touring building, but there have been some remarkable changes since last fall. The building is about half empty now as they are adding over 350,000 square feet to the Softail building and moving the touring line over there. Just about all the fabrication has been moved out of the touring building at this point and the only thing left is the actual assembly line which only occupies about 1/2 of the buidling. All the other machinery (fabrication) has already been moved. The word we were given was that by august even the assembly line will have moved to the new addition on the softail building leaving nothing but empty space in the touring building. The tour guides advised by then the tour will have transitioned into that building and you will not only get to see the touring line but also the softail line. For those of you planning on being in the area from now til august, just be forewarned that right now your going to be seeing a mostly empty building during the tour. Tour is still worth it since it's free, but by August it should be much better.

i got the back door tour there once.. delivered 1000 gallons of acid..got to drive around the dark building in my expediter truck..semi trailers sitting everywhere with the doors wide open..lots of engines,frames,fenders/tanks,just sitting there..too bad i am god fearing.. the temptation of a free bike project was strong.. it was a cool factory to see.. i got to roam all around inside till they found someone to unload me..think i even got some detention pay for standing around..had rolling shelves of painted tins everywhere, springers, frames with the engines installed.felt like i was 10yo walking around in santas workshop
