Default Three More Weeks!

Till we hit the road to Grand Junction, Co. On the return, we are going down the "Million Dollar Hwy" to get our kicks on Route 66, and back to the house. Eleven glorious days on the road! Yeeehaw!

While planning this trip, using MS streets and trips, you can switch over to a live view of the route you are going to travel. That is friggin' awsome to be able to see where you are going. Things start getting good after the westward turn at Lamar, Co.

Default road trip

Have a great trip. While in Colorado watch out for the patches of ice in the mornings.
Headed out myself from Austin to Sacramento via NM, CO, UT, NV. On the way out it`ll be Carlsbad, Socorro, Kingman (Rt 66), Lone Pine and up 395 and over the hill to Sacramento. On the way back Carson City, Ely, Moab, Durango, Ft Sumner and home. Leaving on May 27, starting back on June 5.
Did a similar trip to CA last year only different route. God, I love the open road. Hope you feel the same.

LAMing, did you check with Colorado DOT or a local? You may need to pack a snow shovel.

We'll be leaving July 1st to run out to Colorado Springs, then on up to Rapid City, Sturgis, on up toward Billings, then either back thru Nebraska or back down into Arizona before winding around back home.

Buzzard II:

I have a website filed that gives conditions on the various passes. Right now, Independence Pass is closed. Still three weeks before our departure, though.

I have some email acquaintances that live in Colorado, and the majority are saying that "typically" the paved passes are open by Memorial Day, but the jeep passes are not. According to the Weather.com averages feature, we can anticipate morning temps in the upper 30's and warming into the low 70's to low 80's, depending on location.

We are flexible and once in Colorado will adjust our route if absolutely necessary.
