How far east are the lovebugs located? Was planning a trip south on short notice since it's raining in the smokys. I'm considering a ride down to the Keys but don't want to run into the lovebugs. I know there are also fires currently burning in fl also. Hoped to start ride tomorrow for a week. Thanks for any updates or advice. Allyn
I live in Sarasota. Love bugs were awful this year. After 3 weeks, the little buggers are just about all gone. A few strays ones in the country. It is my understanding that the bugs swarm south to north, so areas north of here may still be getting the bugs and south should be over them, but can't say for sure.
Love bugs heavy in early morning and at night.
Fire/smoke issue diminished but strong smell present.
Those with allergies or breathing conditions may have trouble during early morning.
The love bugs just look nasty but a really soaked dripping beach towel placed on bike once you arrive at destination for an hour or overnight hydrates them and they just wipe off.
Take rain gear.
South Florida here, bugs on 95 at night worse than day, but starting to ease up, the smoke issue from the fires has gone down a lot, not even an issue the past 2 days, but rain is in the forecast for later today and Sunday.
We're pulling out in the morning heading south. No plans to be at a certain place each day and not planning on riding on interstates. Only plans are stopping at Savannah,Ga and maybe St. Augustine. After that maybe A1A for a while toward the Keys. Trying for a low-stress week of riding that's why nothing's set in stone. Planning for an "adventure" instead of a trip.
might wanna re-consider going to far on a1a....once past fort pierce...it sometimes gets to be a slow ride cuz of traffic....i would suggest gettin off a1a at fort pierce and takin the slab (either 95 or the turn pike) to homestead....save ya alot of time if you are going all the way to keywest....also....check the keys web sites to see if there is something going on at that time....can be crowded....hit or miss....ride safe....
