Any body know the details of the state getting a bike across the bridge for a scared rider , wife , she wants to ride the UP but not liking the idea of doing the bridge
Give me $1500, the keys and title and I will get your bike across the bridge! On a serious not, if she is afraid to cross a small bridge over lakes, should you really take her romping through the UP. Might want to consider trailering the bikes and just taking joy rides with her.
I'm not sure about that, I know they was taking Snowmobiles over but I don't know about bikes.
As long as it's not real windy it's no big deal, best to stay off the grates. If the Weather is decent on the weekend of the 4th of June I'm taking a group across.
You should be able to e-mail the State or a Bridge authority.
I wish I could be more of a help for you... good luck.

Have done a lot of riding in the UP with her when we hauled the bikes but not wanting to take the camper planing a long weekend and meeting other people up there to ride with
I grew up in NYC and have no problems with almost any bridges. But the Mackinac Bridge is a little freaky, with metal grates, and low sides, and sways in wind. I have heard they will drive your car but don't know about bikes. Maybe you could ride your bike over, park it, get a ride from bridge authority back to your wife and have them take your wife back while you drive her bike over.
Good luck.

think your best bet is to try calling the Bridge Authority at 906 643 7603. In the winter you can get a snowmobile trailered across for a small fee. They also have a driver available to drive cars across for people afraid to do so, perhaps they could give you a ride back to the wifes bike so you could ride it across for her. Worst case scenario you could both ride across on your bike to St Ignace then take a cab from St Ignace back to her bike while she waits at yours. Or you could take one of the ferrys across Lake Michigan to Milwaukee or Manitowok,WI and avoid the bridge completely.

I know they were doing construction a couple of years ago and some of the bridge was 1/2 solid and 1/2 grate. Can't remember if it was all the way across or not.
