Will be passing you goin the other way at some point of the trip. Heading out from Lincoln,NE on the 16th of july for 2 weeks, 4500 mile trip. Stops in San Francisco up Hwy 1 on the coast to Oregan and Crator Lake then east thourgh Idaho, Montana (Bear tooth pass) back home. Cant wait going with 4 other bikes. If you see a group of 4 bikes headed the other way have your wife raise both hands in the air and wave so I know it was you, if I see that I will have my wife do the same thing in return so you know it was me. Have a great trip and be safe.
My wife will be on her own bike, so that may be a bit dangerous
If you'd like to PM during your trip about where you are though, maybe we could coordinate a meet...
We packed way too much into this trip. I could've spent the entire week in the Redwoods or on the Beach.Had a great time, though. Damn near impossible to take a picture of a redwood and capture the scope of them, but here are some of the shots I took...
Avenue of the Giants - Beautiful road
Candelabra Tree at The Trees of Mystery
Brotherhood Tree
One of our camp spots in Cave Junction, OR
Cathedral Tree
We spent 2 nights camping in the Redwoods. Along the way we stopped at the Oregon Caves, Treehouse Resort, Trees of Mystery, and rode through Avenue of the Giants.
First time I've seen the ocean since 1990 - Crescent City, CA
Big Chair on the beach at Trinidad, CA
View from the chair
Island in the fog
View from our tent @ Westport Beach
Gotta love out little stove & coffeepot. Compact & works great!
Caves, Redwoods, Beaches, Treacherous Mountain Passes, Wind, Hail, Saw lightning start a Wildfire...Oh and a sting in the eye by a bee while riding up the PCH!
Just a beautiful trip....
Looks like a great road trip you had. Thanks for sharing the photos...really liked the stove and coffe pot shot...reminds me of the old Then Came Bronson series!
Great ride, I did almost the exact same route with my father-in-law back in July. We started and ended in Medford Oregon. Our last stop was Reno, then rode back to Medford from there. Great country, I live on the east coast and was jealous that my in-laws get to ride that country all the time.
Your ride sounds great. I live about 80 miles East and just a little south of SF (Turlock). I have ridden Highway 1 several times all the way from Santa Barbara to WA. I had always thought Highway 1 between Santa Barbara was the best until I rode North of SF - I find that a much more rugged area (just my opinion). Did you get a chance to ride through the tree in Leggett??.
In your post about getting stung by the bee - ouch - while riding up PCH. I have used that term in the past and got corrected by some folks - just did a google search and learned alot - actually PCH refers more to stretches of highway 1 in the southern part of CA. I was surprised to learn that several sections of highway 1 along the coast of CA has differnent names... I would guess only those that live in the certing areas are most annul about usage of titles, I know because I have met them.
Glad you enjoyed your ride - what did you think of the ride around Lake Tahoe (providing the traffic wasn't too bad) light traffic = great ride. TRAFFIC and its a bitch. As mentioned - if you got a chance - Virgina City in the Reno area is a great place to visist - again when traffac is light. Street Vibrations is in a few weeks and that is a time to stay away from Virgina city - those that have been there then, know what Iam talking about.
Next time, when you get to the west coast - turn right and enjoy OR and WA coast - GREAT riding...
