Default Big trip suggestions

Hey All,
I'll be setting out on an extended road trip this Sunday 5/29

I'll leave MA and head north west to Hamilton, ON Canada and then cross back in to the states at the bottom of Lake Huron. Cross MI with stops in Detroit and Jackson.
Head to Chicago and then south east through IN through Fort Wayne, IN and in to Ohio stopping in Zanesville, OH and up to Pittsburgh, PA.

I have to meet my friends in Winchester, VA on Thursday 6/2 for trip down to the Dragon and back to MA no Mon 6/6

If you have any suggestions on ANYTHING, I'd appreciate it. Food, Drink, Roads, cheap places to stay,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,ANYTHING at all would be great.

take sheridan rd from up north of chicago then lake shore drive. depending on time of day the traffic isn't too bad. great views of chicago and the lake front. as for food stop by any portillios for a great beef sandwich or ribs. Can't forget about some deep dish pizza.

Cheapest places to stay to me means camping. That the info you are looking for, or prefer the mom-and-pop motels?

Camping can be cool but the small non chain motels are generally a lot more convenient.

I've found a lot of bad ones over the years but I've also found a few good ones for under $50 a night. I've never stayed at a cabin but seen them place to place. I don't need anything fancy, minimalist at best.

You can sometimes find good deals in less populated areas between the bigger cities. Hidden jewels, like the small town greasy spoons you see on the food network or travel channel.

When in Ohio, just south of Zanesville you need to ride Ohio State Route 555, our version of the dragon. Also buried in the Hocking Hills in South Bloomingville at the intersection of Ohio State Routes 52 and 664 is a little bar/restraunt called Jimbo's. Best burgers around (they only take cash no credit cards). A little farther to the north at the intersection of Ohio 13 and US Rt. 40 In Jacksontown is the Jacktown Pub. Best Philly cheeses teak in Ohio and good people too. Some of the best riding in the 5 state area is in my backyard. We'll be riding or I would be glad to ride along with you.

I suggest either more time or a shorter trip. Sounds like you'll be spending a lot of hours in the saddle and not be having much time to stop and enjoy the places you will be riding through. I could spend 10 days in Michigan alone, and still feel cramped for time. When my wife and I did the Blue Ridge Parkway/Draggon, we took 12 days and felt like we could have easily used a few more days. Maybe you are young and can handle this, but I am kinda old and like to stop and relax a bit on my trips.

Check out the Lee Hi truck stop in Lexington, VA. Great food, ( Chicken Fried Steak is wonderful! ) great staff, & really unique dining rooms. They were featured on the travel channel as one of the best places to stop. Check the link. www.leehi.com/
The wife & I are headed that way on Saturday. You might, if time permits, travel the Blue Ridge Parkway as part of your journey. Fantastic views.

All good points. The beauty of riding alone (for the first 1/2) is I can take as much or as little time as I want or need.
I've done a lot of riding like this over the years and your right at 48 it can wear you down. But I'm in pretty good shape and know my limits.

What I've typically done is ride 6 to 800 miles the first day in to Canada.
Thats a long 12 to 16 hours in the saddle but I've done it many times before.
With that kind of mileage behind me and done I can spend the next 3 days on the back roads enjoying the scenery. If I want to make up some time I can hit a highway.
When the time comes I'll run down to VA to meet up with my friends for the second leg of the trip.

I've also been known to get to the first spot on the map and stay an extra day or two before turning around and coming home lol.

And thanks to all that have replied. I appreciate the help.
