I hope this is in the right place. Seemed like it so here goes. I was looking for someone to tell me of the pro's or con's of taking my Heritage on a 6K mile round trip journey. I'm looking into going to Florida from Cal. with a few friends but have concerns the bike may be less than adequate on such a trip.
All input is appreciated - good bad or indifferent.
If you are comfortable enough, then it's fine. The bike will handle it as good as any other, you just start talking to yourself after a while since guys like us don't have radios. I just came back from a 1500 mile 5 day trip(4 days of riding), with a passenger. If I had the time to take a 6000 mile trip on my Heritage, I would not think twice. Personally I try to keep the days ride under 500 miles, but that is a preference of mine, the bike doesn't care at all.
That's what I was thinking of as a 'stop riding' point plus or minus depending on where I am. Plus I don't want to make it some type of speed run, might as well stop and check out what I'm missing along the route. Thanks dwylee...
Pro's
1. Going on a 6,000 mile coast to coast trip
2. Getting to do it on a Heritage
3. Having a great time seeing the country only 2 wheels can show you
Con's
1. Having to talk to all the people that are going to be asking about your bike and trip
2. Envious people wishing we could do something like that
3. Having to make plans for the next trip once you are home
4. Waiting for the trip to start
I could go on but I think you get the idea...ride and enjoy. My '97 went on trips and it never complained (well except to ride by my brothers honda)
I think we all know why I really asked. I'm looking for a way out. Haha, just kidding. My only real concern is the comfort factor, but that's one of the reasons they put brakes on bikes. Thanks again.
The bike will do it with no problem. What about you? How's your stamina? I've done 500 mile a day rides on mine and couldv'e kept going much further and I've done 200 mile a day rides when I couldn't wait to get off. How far have you gone on yours in a day?
I ride a 07 Heritage and it's all good. Last long ride was an Iron Butt 1,000 miles, so I bought an iPod Nano.... tired of singing Green Acres to myself and a bad singer at that. Have done several weekend trips with my wife, she gets both bags, the old rule of what is yours is hers applies, lol.....
Thanks again folks...Looks like we will be leaving towards the end of July as long as nothing interferes. One of the guys going is an 'expert' in these adventures and he is charting out the route with avoiding as much city traffic as we can.
