Default Northern Idaho to Nevada?

Has anyone a suggestion on which route is the nicest from the Canadian border to Nevada? I'm then going to head west to the PCH 101 to take it north back to BC. Suggestions welcome.

Here's a suggestion if you have the time...To keep this short, I'll just mostly name towns:
Bonners Ferry, ID-Moyie Springs-Troy, MT-Thompson Falls, MT-Missoula/Lolo, MT-Syringa,ID-Grangeville-McCall-Horseshoe Bend-Boise-Mountain Home-Riddle, ID and continue south into Nevada.

700 miles of fine riding to the NV border with minimized summer traffic. That 2-lane that drops down into Elko, Nevada is a great ride.

You forgot Grasmere, Idaho.. Grasmere is one of the few places on earth where I got lucky at the local bar WITHOUT the bar being located near an inpatient mental heath center or prison..

Default Mountain City Highway..

If you do decide come south from Mountain Home , Idaho to Elko, Nevada you will be on what we locals from Elko call Mountain City Highway... It is a great ride.. Top off with gas at Mountain Home Idaho and again just south of the Nevada state line on the indian reservation... After you leave the small town at the state line use caution untill you pass Wildhorse Resovoire.. Open range, cayon roads.. Everything from horses to cattle, elk, deer, on the road.. One early morning I had two mountain lions cross the road in front of me.. I have had livestock semi's come around a blind corner taking their half out of the middle..

Take your time.. Pull off the road to sightsee.. Get to Elko and look me up at Good Time Charlie's tavern just off 5th street..

Default Thanks for the tips

Have been pouring over the maps for the past few days. I plan on staying off the Interstates. 95 south looks interesting. Anyone been on it?

I live in Coeur d'Alene and 95 comes right through here. It's a good road coming from Canada just a bit busy this time of year. That's why I suggested the route in the Google map link above. South of Coeur d'Alene tourist traffic lightens up some. If you choose 95 you'll be fine.

I also live in the area and if time is of no concern, here's what I'd do for optimum scenic riding. Heading east out of Coeur d' Alene (yes you are leaving US 95 for a bit), take I-90 east until you hit exit 22 and go south on Hwy. 97 that will take you around Coeur d' Alene Lake. This is a very scenic road with lots of twisties. Hwy. 97 then becomes Hwy. 3 into St. Maries, Idaho. If you want to get back onto Hwy 95, the stretch between St. Maries and Plummer, Idaho again has lots of twisties, but a bit more traffic. Again, very scenic as you travel along Benewah and Chatcolet Lakes.

If you want to stay off Hwy. 95, stay on Hwy. 3 south out of St. Maries. When the road "T's", go west on Hwy. 6 down through Emida and White Pine Drive (some of the largest pines in North America are in this stretch) to Harvard. From there you could head back to 95 or continue south through Deary. Hwy. 3 through Kendrick and Juliaetta will eventually take you back to Hwy 95 at Spalding (near Lapwai).

Again, I'm only suggesting an alternative route through a portion of northern Idaho. I grew up in this area and I take this route over Hwy. 95 every chance I get. If you don't mind heading east a bit, I agree with a previous post that suggest you take Hwy 12 through Lolo Mt, down through Grangeville, that too is a very nice road and is rated very highly by most motorcycle road websites as a top 10. Any other specific questions, pm me. Have fun, you're going to enjoy it.

Default Thanks for all that info

I went into the HD website and you can plan a route with their app. It has some pretty easy route planning that shows hotels and HD dealerships along the way. (go figure) Pretty well ended up with 95 south from the border to Nevada and then west through California to route 101. Can't wait to get out of here.

Default your trip through Idaho

2 ways to consider outside of lewiston, the camas prairie is beautiful, You can cut over the lo lo pass stay at the hotsprings overnight drop down into salmon challis or continue south and go down the biggest hill whitebird dropping down into the snake river basin, mccall and then down some of the best whitewater in America, through A nice two lane highway down into the treasure valley and into boise then hitting mountain home the 95 will be hot in council and parma, though so could mountain home as well. stay safe enjoy!!!

If you take 93, you will get some scenery as well.. Im a huge fan of the Missoula area taking LoLo Pass through the National Forest of the same name! If you decided against that 93 will eventually dump you out in the high and low desert of Idaho in a cool area called Craters of the Moon. If you ever get the chance, Id skip Nevada and spend my time in Utah!!! Was there last June ran the state from South to North and was amazed at what it offered! Happy travels!
