Just got back from CO. Estes Park through Breckinridge 3 weeks ago. It snowed 6 inches in the high rockies / snow was still banked on the sides of the road. I would take them you never know when your going to need them.
Just got back from a 4000 mile ride through the rockies including colorado twice. Trip was colder than my trip to alaska last year. Trick is to set up your riding gear in layers so you can adjust to whatever climate you run across.
