Default Travel Luggage

Hey folks. Didn't really know where to ask this question, but figured this is where the experts would be.

Looking for a bag to fit on my RK. Something that will attach to the sissy bar and sit on the luggage rack. Also want it to remain comfortable for the wife to lean back on the backrest so the straps have to be comfortable for her to lean against.

I don't need a huge back and certainly don't want something that is going to be super top heavy.

On our trip to San Angelo this past Monday and Tuesday, a friend loaned us a roll bag that the end opened up on. It was nice and saved our bacon because is allowed me to pack warmer jackets in the hard bags than we'd originally planned on. Good thing we did. But it's not quite roomy enough for things you'd take for anything more than an overnighter.

What are your recommendations? Please keep in mind I'd like to stay around $100.00 or less if at all possible.

I used and liked the Kuryakyn full dresser bag on my Fatboy....when you don't need your jacket, you can put them on top....it has wheels but i always left it attached to my removable backrest. Certainly worth the money and is durable....

Yeah, the $100 cap limits what you can get. I use an Ortlieb duffle on top of my luggage rack. They are inexpensive, absolutely waterproof, light, and come in three sizes.

I'd say $100 is a bit on the low side for motorcycle-specific luggage. I mean, you get what you pay for. So if you want something that will truly be waterproof, put up with the elements, etc., you may have to pony up a bit, at least another $50, which gets you into some decent Kuryakyn bags.

That said...

In the non-motorcycle world, you may look at the dry sacks that kayakers use. They are just duffel bags that open on the top/end and are 100% waterproof, as in designed to be submerged and beaten against rocks while keeping your undies dry. They'll have grommets so you can strap it to the sissy bar however you like.

You can get really good ones at or even below $100. Check places like REI.

Ooo weee, that Ortlieb duffle is pricey. But I have seen others using them, so they must work.

I go with a T-Bag bag that expands. Small strap goes over the sissy bar (passenger cannot feel anything), the bag sits on the luggage rack and it holds quite a bit. Bought it on E bay for $75 plus including a raincover. Has worked sweet.

Went on a long ride and decided to put a tour pack box on the bike (so the T bag setup would not work) and needed more carry space. Bought a Chase Harper B-Alaska Bag for $55 plus a raincover for it -$26 and found it held more than the T bag and is as versatile as can be. They also have lots o other bags and such.

Oh, we also have a large hard side rollbag (switchback I think) from T bag that works great for things like the coats like you mentioned, and it can strap on nearly anywhere. Got that baby offn E bay too for $75 or so.

hope this helps Danny...........

Thanks for the replies guys. I know I'm a cheapskate. But the less I spend on baggage, the more gas I can buy to ride.

Anyway, I was thinking along the lines of this.... which is why I put the 100.00 limit on it. I don't necessarily care for the studs and conchos, but for that price, I could live with it.

I have a similar setup like the one you posted above, except it is made by TourMaster. It is a heavy duty canvas and comes with a rain cover. I have been using for the past three years and it has definitely been worth the 85 bucks I paid for it at the ktm shop in El Paso.

It's exactly like this used one on eBay

Do a search for the Saddleman S3500 and thank me later. I think I paid around $165 for mine about a year ago. It's far and above the Tbag that I had previously.
