I am looking on any information on the Tamiami Trail. I will be leaving NY to visit a friend in Sarasota in June and would like to take a scenic ride to Miami, Fl to visit my in laws and then ride to Key West. By looking at the map, Tamiami Trail seems like a nice road to take from Sarasota to Miami, but I do not know how the actual road is and if it is congested in June. Or if anyone knows a better scenic road to ride to Miami.
Thanks.
I rode the Tamiami Trail in '81 and it was a damn nice road. Probably a lot different now. Start out on it, get a map and then pick and choose your route South. Just don't do it in July or August. The Floridians here will be able to tell you what you want to know.
I'm headin to the Keys Christmas day with my Heritage in the back of my pickup. After a pitstop in Daytona for the nite, I will be tent camping at the KOA in Fiesta Key for 4 nites. I plan on doin some day trips on the bike and have been researching the Tamiami Trail. Hopefully I can get a chance to ride it and post some photos.

I grew up on the Tamiami in Sarasota. Fort Myers is congested, but south of there, down through Estero and Naples and through the bend in the Everglades, it shouln't be bad. More desolate than congested, since the interstate takes the majority of the traffic now.Take time to enjoy Collier -Seminole State Park south of Naples and Koreshan State Historic Site in Estero, home of the original "Koresh". I worked for the state park system , Florida's parks are top-notch. Riding the historic Tamiami Trail sounds interesting.
I think it would be a good ride, Chokoloskee, Shark Valley, Miccosukee Casino, air boats rides, aligators, etc, etc. However, people around here are, for the lack of a better word, dumb on the roads, so I would be careful the closer you get to Miami.
