Default KY ride

Going to be taking a ride from Indy down into eastern KY next weekend. We'll probably go to Rabbit Hash and over to the Nada Tunnel.

What other cool biker destinations are there around Lexington and the surrounding areas? Good roads to hit?

US 42 is a good ride from the Markland dam up to Rabbit Hash. You could stop at Janes Saddlebag before you get to Rabbit Hash. Ky 8 is also a pretty good ride in Northern Ky.

Rabbit Hash is not Eastern Kentucky, it is between Louisville and Covington in Nothern Kentucky.
Still pretty area of sparsely populated towns and rolling hills, I have never ridden the area except on I-71.

I was hoping that you would get a lot of responses to this post. A few of us are heading from southern MI to KY in late June, entering KY at Louisville, and then going west and circling the state. Looking for some tips on what to see, roads to ride, etc. We plan on spending 3 or 4 nights in KY.

Going west from Louisville go south to E-Town, you can take the Western Kentucky Parkway over to the Land Between the Lakes.
Riding US 62 or 68 are good rides going east and west.
Southeast of Louisville is The Kentucky Bourbon Trail a good ride to several distilleries. That will also give you an education on Kentucky Bourbon.

22 starts in Louisville and ends in a little place called Willow, Ky.(near Maysville). The whole route has about every kind of turn and terrain you can think of but the part from Dry Ridge to Willow is one of the tastiest roads you'll ever be on if you like twisties. If you want to just access the Dry Ridge to Willow part run down I-75 to Dry Ridge....a couple miles south you go thru Williamstown. It's kind of confusing following 22 thru Williamstown but when you do by the time you get to Willow you'll be thinking wholly sh*t how come I never heard of this road before.

When you get to the end of 22 turn right on 10 and go to the AA Hwy. into Maysville. Turn right on 68(west, tough you're actually going south) and take that to Lexington. Just some gentle rolling hills but one of the prettiest rides in Kentucky through horse country.

The Bourbon trail is a fun ride. You can do all 6 distilleries in one day but really to do it right you need two. There are other distilleries in the state as well not on the trail. Each distillery has free tasting as well though on a bike you have to pick your spots. Get a passport at the first one you go to, get it stamped at all 6, mail it in get a t-shirt.

Kentucky is a beautiful state but if I only had a few days to explore I'd spend my time in central and eastern Kentucky.

BTW, if Rabbit Hash is your destination, I'd run 42 all the way from Louisville....it's a beautiful ride from Louisville up the river. From Indy as soon as you cross the bridge go 71 north to the first exit, Zorn Ave. turn left and you're a block from 42. When you leave Rabbit Hash you're not far from 75 where you could run down to Dry Ridge and go east. I've heard too, but never done yet, that 421 from Richmond south is some crazy riding.
