Default Mt Rushmore Trip 2012

Thought I'd share some pictures of our Mt. Rushmore Trip. Not much to see between Ohio and South Dakota except a lot of corn in Iowa and a lot of hay in Nebraska. 108 degrees was the highest temperature we recorded, but I guess if you decide to take a trip in July during the worst drought in recent history you gotta expect high temps. We stopped at the National Motorcycle Museum in Anamosa, IA on the way out and the Harley Museum in Milwaukee on the way back. For the ten days we were riding, only got rained on once - on the last day naturally. All-in-all, a great trip! Anyone who hasn't been to this area of the country should start planning a trip now!

Stockade Lake, Custer, SD

Buffalo roaming on the Custer S.P. Wildlife Loop. Didn't see any antelopes playing on this trip.

Mt. Rushmore from a distance.

Mt. Rushmore. One more item off the Bucket List.

Crazy Horse. Still a lot of work to do, but pretty impressive nonetheless.

Black Hills Steam Train (but pulled by diesel today). Hill City to Keystone.

Needles Highway.

Spearfish Canyon. Probably the most enjoyable ride of the trip.

Devils Tower of "Close Encounters" fame.

Badlands. Almost too unusual to describe.

I-90 across South Dakota. Long, straight and HOT! 103 degrees and no shade anywhere!

Mackinac Bridge, MI. -- before riding on the grate.

Looks like you had a great time! Gotta agree, Spearfish canyon road kicks ***.

Thanks for posting up the pics!

Your shot of the Badlands reminds me of parts of Afghanistan. Now that is some 'bad land'.

ok I am calling BS on your SD photo

the one where you say "long, straight and HOT" with no shade in sight

the picture kind of looks like you were in the shade in the photo with the sun just ahead of the group

other than that the pics look awesome and amazing!

i'm still waiting for my chance to get there - but with only 2 weeks per year vacation it would be hard to get there from South FL

Spearfish Canyon is my favorite out there too. But the Wildlife loop and Needles HWY are close seconds to me! It sure does get frigging hot though. I think I'm done going during the rally Month and either going to go in June or September from this point forward.

Ok, I guess you got me on that one. A stray cloud must have drifted between me and the sun when I took that picture. Living in Ohio, I am not used to seeing no trees, or shade, or a Walmart, or a Starbucks, or a McDonald's for miles and miles. I never realized the "wide open spaces" in S. Dakota and Wyoming were so wide ... and so open.

And before you call me out on my sig picture, I know I have to update the states I've ridden in -- just have to remember how.
