Been to Sturgis a couple of times. Always stay at the same place. LAMPHERE'S RANCH. Already thinking of 2013, but would like a new experience. I'm thinking of splitting my time between Lamphere's and another campground or just another campground. Can anyone suggest a different camp ground. THXS GG
We did Shade Valley this year and it was good for the most part. nice huge shower buildings, food was a bit expensive and not available until 07:00 a.m. The bar was nice and not too crowded. It's about 6-7 miles east of the Chip on 34.
I wouldn't recommend The Chip unless you like extreme heat, extreme dust, and extreme filth (facilities). The people that stay there are great, I just couldn't stand the rest of it.
Try out Glencoe, it provides plenty of room, plenty of shade, the showers and facilities are nicer than The Chip but a little worse than Lamphere. Close walking distanct to the FT. Places to party if in the mood, also enough room to get away and get a good night sleep if needed.
My next try, I think I'll go somewhere toward Nemo Rd or somewhere along the 385.

+1 on the Glencoe Camping ... and Nemo is a "well kept secret" too ... a great area!
Depends on what your criteria is?
You never said what you preferred?
I wouldn't go for the chip either, over priced hype, and a bitch getting in there and a bitch getting out of there and no shade. Security ain't that great either.
They use the pottable water (water that comes out of the showers) too for dust control, just gross.
Hog Heaven is a great place though. Elk Creek is nice too.
