Default Arizona Exploring

Starting to plan my Laughlin trip for next year. Going to make it a 2 week trip even though Laughln is only 350 miles away! Anyway, I plan on going through Jerome and Sedona and would like to explore Eastern Az for several days after that. I'll then spend 2 or 3 days in Grand Canyon before heading into Laughlin. I'll be camping the whole time and looking for suggestions on cool places to explore. My wife and I will be on a 2012 Limited. We actually like being off the beaten path but obviously 4WD roads are out.

With two weeks, you could take in some of southern Utah. The only road in Arizona that I don't recommend is 88 between Apache Junction and Lake Roosevelt. Once you get east of Tortilla Flats, you have 22 miles of dirt road over to Highway 188. Route 88 is known as the Apache Trail and there are some good You Tube videos of it. Not fun on a touring bike(dusty, sandy, loose gravel and washboard).

Go to Show Low take highway 60 east out of Show Low to 180 south through western part of New Mexico then pick up 78 West tell it goes into 191 take 191 north.

191 is the old Devils Highway it use to be Highway 666 but they changed the numbers.
Also known as the Coronado Trail number 20 on the top 100 motorcycle roads web site.

http://www.motorcycleroads.com/best/?s=75

Very scenic, but don't be careless, it is a ride for experienced riders.

Don't miss the section of Rt66 between Oatman and Seligman AZ on your way to the GC.

I think that it is important to be in Jerome or Sedona at either sunrise or sunset. The light really accentuates the beauty of the canyon. It is almost a spiritual view.

Wiltat, Thanks that is just what I'm looking for. Might have to do that.

jmorgan, I also though about southern Utah. Did Zion, Bryce, Grand Canyon last year. I wanted to go from Bryce to Grand Staircase but wasn't sure of the road condition. Is it doable on a touring bike?

I will pass on this question as I haven't been in the area yet. Had to cancel last year.
