Default Route 66 in may

So I just picked my next year vacation and took 2 1/2 weeks in may. I'm planning to ride from NY to Vegas via Route 66 via Oatman Arizona.
Any suggestions/comments welcome.
Thanks

If I were you, I would go as early in May as possible. The past two summers in Oklahoma have been extremely HOT.

Are you going to start Rt 66 on Jackson Street in Chicago?

Much of the road is under Interstate 40 now. There are a few sections in Ill. (some old brick even), some sections in Okla., Texas, and a little in Missouri. The total section of the road in Kansas is still there at Baxter Springs just west of Joplin. The total miles in Kansas is only 13 and you will cross the famous Baxter Springs Bridge.

In NM there is still a little of the road, but not much. The best section is the 100+ miles from Seligman, Az. to Kingman, and then the section from Kingman to Oatman.

There is also a large section from Needles, Calif. to Barstow, but the road is in bad shape and not much fun to travel unless you just have to say you did it.

May should be a pretty good time of year for a trip like this.

In this part of the country early May weather can vary greatly but ususally we don't get snow (as a rule) after mid-April.

If you go thru Michigan on I-94 let out a shout and maybe I'll meet you for a coffee!

Get this book:

It will tell you where the original pavement is and what to see along the way. And when you go thru Chandler, OK, stop and visit with the author. He's a great guy, very knowledgeable about Rt 66, and has a nice art gallery (he's a very accomplished artist that does Rt 66 art).
