I have been thinking a few months about making a road trip to Vegas from South East Texas. I am trying to figure out how earlier I can make it next year and have good weather.

Weather is one thing that is never predictable. But normally by the end of April weather has normally warmed up here in Texas. So maybe it will be one of those trips that I just watch the weather and when I see a window of about a week that I just jump on the bike and take off.

Anyone made this trip before?

when you get to san antonio take hwy 90 out thru big bend. if you stay south you can go just about any time there is a window of decent weather. april at higher elevations in arizona can be cold and might get some snow.

If you stay on I10 all the way to loop 101 in Phoenix, then follow that around to hwy 93 up to I40. Then out of Kingman continue on 93 all the way to Vegas you really do not have to worry about snow and ice any time of year. But if you go through Flagstaff and out of Kingman go through Laughlin the winter time will be very cold and possible snow and ice. Of course this route is much more scenic just requires better planning. However will say the roads are traveled often and crews keep the roads clear really well. In winter I travel 93 out of Phoenix all the way to Vegas, rest of year I go through Flagstaff and Laughlin.

Have gone to and from LV-Hou this way once in Sptember and once in May. I prefer the northern route (yes 40 across NM and parts of AZ suck) If you have time there are great roads in Texas, NM and AZ two lanes, some of which are posted here just as ride reports in the diff. states. Weather had it all, heat ,rain, cold.
