In addition, I would consider Cody Wy instead of West Yellowstone. Much cooler town (imo) and it has a Harley Dealer right there. I know it has a big rodeo grounds and plenty of hotels. Imo, it has more of the small town America feel you refer to than West Yellowstone. And I get the 4th of july thing, but it will be insane anywhere near Yellowstone.
To me West Yellowstone is a little too T-shirt/salt water taffy. It's not bad, but not that great either. Again, just my opinion.
What he said. Cody. Better Destination, close to yellowstone if you like, Buffalo Bill Museum, nightly rodes, etc... 4th of July is to busy for me.
Went thru Yellowstone this summer took southern route from Cody and came out in West Yellowstone.Nice ride. But my battery took a crap comin into Cody and found the (quote---HARLEY DEALER)(great if u want a new 50.00 t shirt, but no shop).Found Thads cycle shop and he did me up rite.We put on close to 3500 miles on this trip(Ne to San Juan Islands Wa.) and took grandkid so wife drove a van that I fabbed a hitch that could carry a moto trailer on.(she didnt want to pull one). That way in case of monsoon, breakdown or whatever could put the trailer down and still keep movin. We stayed in motels, love that take a shower and a few cool ones at the end a the day stuff.I hate crowds so any touristy place on a holiday aint my bag.Yes W Yellowstone is a touristy high priced place. As far as goin East, there is nice scenery(used to truck all across there)but favorite was around kentucky etc,but really like the west better.
