Headed down in june to gatlinburg, will be staying in a cabin for seven days and looking for rides besides the dragon. Need to be close to the g'burg area so we will be able to return to the cabin at night.
I hope you love it as much as we did! Every time this subject comes up most people just bitch about Gatlinburg saying it's too crowded and all of that. And they are right, it is crowded, but you don't have to spend a lot of time there, and in the evenings it gives you some great places to eat! I don't remember the name of it, but there's a wildlife loop in a State Park that is right there close to town. We saw three bears there. I'll try to go back and find some of the great rides we did for you.
The Mrs. and I were down there this past sept. we rode the Cherola Skyway , Dragon and Moonshine Highway. All of them were great rides. We also did the loop in the Smokey Mtn. Nat Park, toured the Distillery in Gatlinburg. Well worth it check out Wheels Thru Time in Maggie Valley great old bikes. You can also do some of the Blue Ridge, another spot is the Biltmore Estate.

Gatlinburg is my backyard. Riding here is simple: Turn the key, put it in gear and ride. There is not a bad road within 100 miles.
We go at least once a year on the bike. I would not recomend cades cove to any one on a Harley ever!!!! It took 4hrs of stop and go traffic with no way around so a few Aisian tourists could stop and look at deer. A lot of good roads out of Gatlinburg the blue ridge parkway is the best in my opinion. Watch the back roads where your cabin will be I hit a bear on my bike 5 years ago about an 600 yards from our cabin.
Take 441 through the park into cherokee and then take 19 to visit Maggie Valley then hop on the Blue ridge back to the park and back to gatlinberg. I was talking with the clerk at the Dulcimer shop in Gatlinberg and he told me that he's never taken his bike on the Dragon because there are way too many other roads less traveled and just as much fun.

... and don't forget to stop at Wheels Through Time Museum in Maggie Valley ... It's well worth the price of admission ... Also ... Check out this link for a great map of excellent rides in the area http://shop.americaridesmaps.com/12-...ides-NC007.htm
