heading to Missouri first week of September to visit my Son who is at Fort Leonard Wood ... he is in the Army National Guard ... will probably have a day to spend after our visit to enjoy some riding .. anything worth doing there or should I just spend a day somewhere else on the way back ...... I'm traveling from Ohio ....
don't know what route you are taking, but if you get near st.louis take a ride up the great river road in alton ill. good places to stop and eat and have a drink. you can ride the great miss-a-sip and then follow the ill. river north. great riding country. if you do it on a weekend the town of grafton ill. 12 miles out of alton will be rockin with bikes.
Thx ... this is the kind of info im looking for .... will check it out on the map ... ive done southern ohio, ky, and tenn ... figuring indiana and illinois are similiar to ohio ... just looking to plan something instead of wandering ...
A lot of good riding in the ozarks although the deer are starting to move everywhere so be careful.....if you head south on 63 towards Arkansas which isn't that far from where you will be. There's good twisties all around...out of westplains 14 towards Ava then towards towards Branson to springfield and back nice ride

Close to Lebanon area, you have MO 19(N to S), MO 32 (E to W), US 63 will drop you S into the heart of Ozark country, Mammth Springs in AR is just across the state line. MO 7 will ride into Lake Ozark area, weekdays traffic is low yet most facilities are still open around the lake(bars/food). Lots of Wineries/lodging/restaurants around the eastern side of Jefferson City along thru Hermann MO off MO 19 & MO 100 N of I-44.
Check things to do Missouri on a web search highlighting certain towns in these areas.
Lots of good riding in Missouri. Lots of bikes riding around Hwy 94 through Dutzow and through the Daniel Boone home area. South Mo. area Hwy 21 and check out Elephant Rock park area. Its a neat looking bunch of granite formations. Some route 66 rides around the Fort Wood area are cool too.
If you are interested in historic roads, you can get on old Rt 66 at Joplin, ride that into Kansas a ways -- although the road is pretty deteriorated, as is the area it runs thru. Easy run from Joplin down to Fayetteville, then east on 16(?) to Brashears to pick up the Pig Trail. As others have stated, Ozark Mtns provide a lot of good riding.
You are not too far from the Camden/ Lake of the Ozarks area.. You can take 63, when it splits go towards Willow Springs and that will take you to West Plains. Catch 160 west towards Gainesville. That is a 2 lane curvy SOB. A great ride. Once you get to Gainesville, take 5 North. It will take you through Ava and Mansfield. In Mansfield, you'll see 60 and take it to Mounain Grove, You'll see 63 again and you've basically made a big circle. I've lived down in that area most of my life. Beautiful country.
