Default Anyone in the Salt Lake Area? Rental?

Hey guys, I headed to SLC for a work conference for Sunday night to Thursday Morning. I will be done around 3 each day and was thinking about renting a bike to ride one day since I probably will never get to Utah again anytime soon.

My question is do you think it is worth it? How are the roads? Or is it a waste of 150.00 bucks. For the time ill get to ride?

Ps flying in from NJ

It's kind of tough because you'll have limited hours of daylight left by the time you're on the road. Maybe you could rent the bike in the morning before the conference so that when it's over you can just head out. Then return it in the morning, again before your conference starts.

I'd make arrangements beforehand, for sure.

There are a couple of dealerships in the SLC area. Where, exactly, is your conference being held?

If it were me, I'd head south, and head up American Fork canyon, over the Alpine Loop which will drop you into Provo canyon. From there I'd go up the canyon, through Midway. If I still have daylight, I'd head for either the Mirror Lake Highway, which will put you into Evanston, WY, or over Wolf Creek Pass. If you're already out of daylight by the time you're in Midway, I'd just go to Park City for dinner and then head back to SLC.

It's dark by about 8:30 now, but of course it will be worth it!

Atticus gave some great advice on the where. Keep an eye on the weather, as we've been having fairly regular afternoon thunderstorms, but they're "supposed" to be done starting tomorrow.

Starting at Downtown HD head up and over Mirror Lake, go through Evanston over to Woodruff and head over Monte Cristo. Circle around Pine View, over Trappers Loop and down Weber Canyon.

You can make that entire loop in approx 5 hours. There are plenty of places to eat along the rout if you get hungry.

Thats a perfect afternoon jaunt.

Google Maps does say that route can be done in 5 hours, 3 minutes. If you're in good shape and don't need long stops, you'll be finished before (or about) dark. I might, however, take my time and just focus on getting to Hunstville before dark and then get dinner there and ride home in the dark. There are two great places there, just around the corner from each other: The Shooting Star, and Huntsville BBQ. Flip a coin. You can't go wrong.
