doing a loop ride out from CT. Going out on 84 into Milford Pa then 6 out past Allegany St Forest then head south and loop back around. Probably 1000mi 2-3 days. Going to do it during the week probably 10/19 weather dependent. Flexible. Anyone interested in joining?
- Don't go into Milford proper, when you cross the Delaware stay on 84 to the top of the hill, then take the Rt. 6 exit west towards Hawley.
- Be sure to stop a Baer's HD in Honesdale.
- Depending on how far you feel like going the first day, either spend the first night in Wellsboro, or perhaps go all the way to Smethport. The Smethport motel is all the way through town, then take a left (still on 6) at bottom of downgrade.
- PA Grand Canyon is a good place to visit if you stay in Wellsboro, but go there in the afternoon -- early mornings it can be filled up with fog.
Also in Wellsboro, for breakfast try Harland's restaurant instead of "the diner".
- West of Smethport, I'd suggest Rt 59 (instead of 6). It crosses the north edge of the Allegheny forest, then pick a road southward.
If you go this way, worth taking a short sidetrip (only about 5 miles) south to Kinzua Bridge park, and walk out onto the bridge. Go to Ormsby (about 6 miles west of Smethport), and take a left, watch for the signs.
- Leaving the forest, you might consider heading to Kane, then south to St. Mary's, then take 120 east -- beautiful country.
- Take 120 to Lock Haven, 220 past Williamsport.
- Then look for 87 northeast, another great road that will take you to Mehoopany and then back to 6 near Tunkhannock.
- Or, another good road is to go to Muncy and take 118 east (but you have to work around Scranton eventually).
Thanks for the info, I just drove out in my cage with wife and dog to backpack the "Grand Canyon" that's what made m want to do this trip. Thanks again.
Hey Jim, I live in Wellsboro, and know these roads like my back yard. If I'm around, sure, I'll ride with you. We can do Kinzua Bridge State Park, Kinzua Dam, ride through Benezette to see the elk (they're out, now that it's cooler), and route 120 back to Lock Haven is a great ride. From Lock Haven, 220 north through Williamsport, and it's easy enough to get back to 6 to head home. Ride from CT to Wellsboro the 1st day, and stay overnight in Wellsboro. From here to Kinzua Bridge, Kinzua Dam, and Benezette will be a full day, but we can do all those & get back to Lock Haven & into Williamsport easy enough. You can stay overnight in Williamsport your 2nd night, and head back to CT on the 3rd day. (This past Sunday, I rode from here to Benezette, and up to Kinzua Bridge, and back to Wellsboro in a day, and didn't even leave town til 1:30 in the afternoon.)
I bought a flhtcu from Baer. Drove over 100 miles to the dealership great service. Gotta go back for my 110 tire shredder install that was in the swr. When I get the bad boy back (her name is bullseye) I might have to take this route.
Had a great ride, 944mi. Thanks for coming out and riding Geezer Glider.
Great roads, no potholes, fast twistys, lots of steep hills and minimal vehicles.

I agree! A great run. I never get tired of riding in western PA. Great country. Glad I could get out while you were here.

sent you a PM. Just wondering about the actual route you took
and some of the sights that were worth seeing.
I might do this trip some time soon, mabe we'll get an
Indian summer day in Jan. or not.
I would be traveling north from allentown area, then pick up 6 in scranton area
then west for undetermined time. still not sure if 1 full day or stay over??
anyway, thanks for posting.

Gonna have to do an overnight --- or 2. Days aren't long enough to do a day ride from down there, and see things. Too much to see up this way. Most of the "good stuff" is in the northwest quarter of PA, and central upstate NY.
