I've got 10 days off starting the last week in October, My Deuce and I are planning to ride up from central Florida thru the blue ridge parkway, I know its late in the year but wanted to get some feedback from fellow riders on that area that time of year. Thanks
Hard to say. May get pretty cold at night but should warm up to the low 60's during the day, normally. If you leather up you should be OK. Course this year has seemed a little cooler then normal overall.
Hoping to head up to Front Royal the first weekend in October and riding Skyline Drive and the entire Blue Ridge south. As long as theres not much rain in the forecast.
Depending on how long you're gonna stay and how far up the Blue Ridge you're gonna go Maggie Valley is good base at the south end. You could spend all your time in the Maggie Valley/Deals Gap area and never stop smiling! Great great riding!
Thanks Kahunajim, I think I'm going to make the Holiday Motel in Maggie Valley my base for a few days, I gave them a call and I am surprised about how friendly and willing they were to chat about the area. That's nice for a change. Enjoy your upcoming ride!
Just so you're prepared, last week of October last year saw 2-3 ft of snow in the higher elevations up here. Kind of unusual but it can happen. Stayed at the Holiday Motel a couple of years back. Definitely rider friendly place. Check out Wheel thru Time while in Maggie Valley if you like cool old motorcycles.
Also keep in mind the the temps on the BRP and Skyline Drive will be 5-10 degrees cooler than posted for the region. Also last week in October will be close to peak fall color change so traffic on those roads could be a pain, try to avoid them on the weekend especially.
