My girl, best friend and his girl are heading west from Ajax, Ontario on Saturday, Aug. 2nd. We'll set up in Spearfish on Aug. 5th. We've got tickets for ZZ on the 6th.
Can anyone tell me how far west of Sturgis Da Bus runs? I'm assuming there's cabs, etc. running from Spearfish. Also I've read mixed reviews on Spearfish. Is there anyplace we should hit in the way of bars, restaurants on the night or 2 we might not want to ride into heart of the rally?
We stay in Spearfish eve year Tues. to Sat. I is pretty laid back (IMO) but close enough to every thing so it works out great. There are a few great restaurants right in town if you like Prime or a steak. But I will half to ask my wife for there names. Also go to the college for breakfast buffet. I think it's $7.00.

Attractions are so hard to rate because of everybody's different interests, But I thought Crazy Horse was lame and wouldn't recommend it to a first timer as there is so much else to see. It went on my fifth year and well...eh.
I had a fantastic Buffalo Prime Rib around Keystone, I think it was the Powder House Restaurant. http://www.powderhouselodge.com/ I still reminisce about that meal. lol

I rode up from Baton Rouge for #73, stayed in Custer, about 1,500 miles one way. The first day we covered 700 miles, second day was about 500, third day was about 300. Like you said, nice three-day ride.
I was part of a group of 9 who rented a house in Custer, about 50 miles from Sturgis, cost me $218 for the week (before we left Custer, we put a deposit down on the same house for next year). I only spent about one half-day in Sturgis, wandering up/down Main St, and that was enough. I went to the Chip for one concert (Doobie Brothers and Kid Rock), had one beer in the Full Throttle Saloon. The rest of the week was spent riding, which was my main reason for going. There are plenty of lists of must-ride roads, but it's hard to find a bad ride.
As for service, not sure what synthetic or not has to do with it, but why not just do the service before leaving home? That's what I did, total trip mileage was a bit over 4K, so I got home in time for the next service due; worked fine for me.
I rode from White Castle (25 miles south of you) to Sturgis in 2013 too. we stayed in Kadoka, SD about 1 hour and 45 minutes east and I'll tell you...Never again!!! about 8 of us are renting a home for next year.
If you're riding on 14A South of Lead check out the Boar's Nest Bar. Real nest open air bar in a wooden barn shaped building with an old roadster on a lift. Burgers looked good.
