Going to be making at trip from Nebraska to Virginia Beach leaving April 24 for a wedding on the 26th on my 2000 softail standard. Wondering if anyone has any ideas or input on roads and where to stay, im bringing a tent to keep the trip cheep and I spent enough time in tents on the Marine Corps it doesn't bother me. Any advice would be great thanks in advance.
ay grunt,
do not pass up a chance to ride the brp. there is a motorcycle campground there by meadows of dan. been there, good place.
in v. b. there are campgrounds down by the beach. good also.
are you riding all freeway thru va.? if so avoid 64 east of Richmond unless you like running 90 mph in bumper to bumper traffic.
Virginia has a lot of fantastic riding, just get off the freeway. im sure time is limited.
enjoy the trip.
Thanks brother I'm going to start riding and stop when I cant ride anymore maybe make an iron butt out of it who knows. I do like my beer so stopping for the night and having one after another. Got a buddy in TN that has a couch I can crash on.
I go up to VA Beach now and then (my daughter lives up there). The roads SUCK. Best place I found to stay is Founders Inn. It's not on the beach but a Great place and not to $$. I usually pay about $100 a night.
20hrs is pushing it; even it interstate the whole time. Hope you have more time on the return trip so you can take advantage of some of the state roads. Hotel rates along the oceabfront area are reasonable up until mid-May. There are two campgrounds within 5 miles of the Va. Bch. oceanfront....KOA and Holiday Trav-L-Park. They are almost across the road (General Booth Blvd) from each other. Two biker friendly bars are very close to each campground.....Boneshakers and Jagers. Both are on the same road as the campgrounds and within a mile and a half of each campground.
Thanks starman I'm going to try to avoid the freeway im going to try and make it in 20 hours
I just did the basic math on your trip.
To make that run in 20 hours:
You would need to have a moving average of 76 mph for 18.5 hours.
And take no more than 10 minutes from exit to entrance for fuel stops (9 of those).
And it allows no time for food or rest other than your 10 minute fuel stops.
and... you will have to negotiate Kansas City, St Louis, and Richmond traffic.
Doable on the slab, but not for the faint of heart.
Virtually impossible if you try to avoid the freeway.
