Having real time weather radar on my iPhone is one of the best developments ever for motorcycle riders.

You are more likely to hit a deer than ever see a tornado.

Think I'd opt for hitting a deer rather than riding through another tornado. When you see cars being flipped up out of the driving lane into the median while you're riding beside a semi at highway speeds ain't no picnic.

But.....by keeping a watchful eye on the sky and an ear to local weather forecasts you should be able to avoid bad weather to that magnitude. Usually its storm systems where you will find tornado's and most of those are predicted in advance.

I always thought I'd want to see a real tornado in person! With no ones personnel property damaged or injuries. For me I think it would overwhelming, especially in the Midwest where its flatter than PA. We may get one here n there, usually a F1 thank God. Just sayin.

Chances of seeing a tornado are very slim. I've lived in the Midwest all my life and have seen only 2.

Yeah, I've seen a lot of results and been in a couple. I was in a job where I chased tornados and then had to handle the results and clean up and unfortunately a few times dragging out the bodies.
The point being your chances of hitting a deer are a lot greater than ever seeing a tornado. People have lived in the Midwest their entire life and have never seen a tornado.

Once saw a tornado pick up an out building at a farm. Lifted it off the ground and once it was several feet above dirt it just blew apart. We were about a thousand yards away at the time. They move slowly, (usually), and are easily avoided by taking a route away from the path it's on. The straight line winds that feed it will blow you down if you get too close. Stay clear of overpasses, they can suck you right out from under one, if it gets close enough. In open country a ditch line or deep depression offer some protection from flying stuff.

This is from about 10 years ago. No photoshop or anything. Just my wife and a tornado.

Not to get off subject! Honest to God, I had 3 encounters with deer. 1st one,1982,Yamaha 1100 midnight special, right outside Gettysburg when there were deer in the battlefield. Split a doe in half going over a 100. I was 19 at the time, what caused it actually saved me (beer) with only pretty good road rash on my shoulder. 2nd,2008,06 street glide, going home from my cousin, going maybe 35 out of the corner of my eye, saw eyes in the headlight! She made up her mind she was coming and slammed into the side of me (can't believe I didn't go down) no damage to bike, just some hair here n there, sore leg! 3rd,2013,13 ultra limited (my bike now) right at dusk, wife n I were about 2mi from home, going about 40 and wouldn't you know it a small fork horn standing on the left hand side feeding decided he was coming across, bam, into the side of us. Horns hit my elbow n hit her leg, no damage to bike. Hair stuck in tour pac and bag latch. So I had my share of deer!!!

I would not let weather changes my plans. Like everyone has stated, just be mindful of the weather and you will do fine.

Enjoy the trip! Sounds like a great one!
