need help with Michigan we are taking the ferry to Ludington then heading north to Grand marais, the plan for now is keep next to the water and head north...Any roads or routes I should know about? I have been as far south as Tunnel of trees coming from St Ignaces side but never this far south...
I'd recommend US31N to Manistee then M22N (look for Little River Casino and turn left at that traffic signal) from there run it all the way back to US31N. At that point you will be in Traverse City stay on US31N again till just after you leave Petosky and M119N (tunnel of trees) Look for Lakeshore Drive just north of Cross Village (Leggs Inn) and follow signs from there to Wilderness SP and Mackinaw City. Once in the UP I like US2W to Blaney Park then M77N to Grand Marias. Another option is US2W to Brevort Lake Rd N to M123N thru Paradise and Newberry, then M28W to M77N. I'm thinking your planning on riding H58 between Grand Marais and Munising, if not don't miss this road while in area.
thanks....yeap Blaney pk has rally going this weekend so we are heading thru there and h58 is the plan.....heading over to Houghton after that....great info thanks again.....missed Leggs inn last time and with the amount people that recommend it I better not miss it this time....
Grew up in ludington. A few nice rides around there. Cant remember the road names for the back way to manistee though, so I guess I cant help too much. Jebavy drive to angling road, and that's where I lose memory.
Us 31 is down to 1 lane just north of us 131 it is a huge road block.
Petoskey is a great town to walk around. Pigs eating ribs is right on 31 just before u get into charlevoix very small but very good. Welcome
If you're going to Houghton, definitely make the run up to Copper Harbor. I like going in on US 41 and then back along M26 which follows the south shore of the big lake. Take a spin up on top of Brockway Mountain while you're at Copper Harbor. Along m26 there's a bakery called the "Jam Pot"run by a bunch of Monks that is excellent bakery treats and their different kinds of jelly and jams. (they ship)
I would also suggest heading up to Whitefish Point checking that and Tequamenon Falls in that area and then loop back down to M28 heading toward M77 and Grand Marais. I think the Lake Superior scenery far surpasses the north end of Lake Michigan.
