Hello all,
Am looking for any info on southern LA. trip.Six of us from N.W. Iowa are planning on a trip down to the Gulf of Mexico in mid May. Plan is to hit the Gulf along the LA/TX border and travel east and hit some sights and sounds in New Orleans then north to MS. and back home. We have talked to a few folks (non riders) that have given us a lot of negative news as far as the crime rate. I don't want to offend any southerners but I don't want to lose what I have bought and paid for either. Any info any of you other multi state travelers have to share would be greatly appreciated.
You may want to ride the Natchez Trace north. I think it is called a National Scenic By-way. Speed limit is 45 in most places, but I always cheat a little. No services on the NT but are available a short ride off the NT. The traffichas always been light.
I have rode the NT from Franklin, TN to Jackson, MS. The planned trip was all the way to Natchez, MS. We had some unexpected problems and ran out of time and had to cut the trip short
I don't know about the Gulf Coast west of New Orleans, but I do know hwy 98 from below Tallassee to Mississippi is a very scenic coastal ride and the Natchez Trace would be a joy to take north at that point.
I thought tourists in MS would beso indangered, there wouldn't be any open season on them until they start nesting there. I think it's just a migratory route anyway.
if you are coming to Texas you need to go the Republic of Texas Rally in Austin .Alot of good people. This is the biggest rally in Texas and lots of good riding from there to the coast ( http://www.rotrally.com/ )
what are the dates that ya'll will be in louisiana, i live about 30 minutes north of lafayette, so i might be able to give ya'll a tour when ya'll come , i work7 and 7 offshore , but if i am in , i would be glad to show ya'll around cajun country.
