I have a company trip coming up in mid October. I will have one extra day there. Where is the best dealer to rent a harley from and where would the best ride be to take my wife for one day? I will be in the Colorado Springs area.
If I had just 1 day to ride I would suggest going up Pike's Peak. I was there with my family about a month ago. Going up Pike's Peak made me wish I was on my bike. Go early if you do because traffic is much heavier later in the day. Take warm clothes for the ride. Cold on top.
For just a day ride start in Colorado Springs, go up the PEAK, the take 24 West to 285, take 285 to Denver and the slab back to Colorado Springs. This should be a good day.
Alt: Do the PEAK then take 24 West to 67 and 67 to Cripple Creek. Do a little gambling and enjoy an 1800's mining town.
Alt. Colorado Springs to 50 on Hwy 115. Spend some time at Royal Gorge and Canyon City. You can then take 9 to Hartsel and 24 back to Springs. If you have the time go to Salida instead of 9 and take 285 and 24 back to Springs.
If you are seriously thinking of going up Pikes Peak (or any pass over 10,000 feet in mid-October), check the weather specifically for the area you are going prior to departing. It could be a nasty blizzard (especially on Pikes Peak) which wouldn't be a lot of fun on a bike. SJ Ron
October average high on the peak is 28 and average low is 14. Average wind speed is 25 and 10 days of snow during the month. Check the forecast and road conditions before departing. SJ Ron
