Default Windshield Vent in CVO Road King ...

This post is aimed at folks who have the CVO Road King with the air vent in the windshield.

I believe that the idea of the vent (same principle as used on the Rushmore batwings and Road Glides) is to reduce the "pressure difference" between the forward side and rider's side of the shield. The great the difference, the more air will "slip around" the shield's edges and hit the rider.

How well does it work?
Do you notice less buffeting with the vents open?

I was thinking of doing this with a regular (non-CVO) Road King.
Clearview Shields sells replacement shields with a vent pre-installed.

Thanks to all who respond!

I will be interested in other opinions as well. For me it works well up to about 75 mph but it is very sensitive to adjustment. It does make a difference depending on position. I am 5-10 and look well above the screen. It does have a very annoying rattle at certain rpm's which I solved by stuffing a foam ear plug between the slot edge and baffle. I do like the height.

Default Station Wagon Effect

You are correct by adjusting the vent opening you can reduce the buffeting effect of the windshield which occurs both because the windshield is lower, station wagon effect, and height of the rider. Thus the adjustable vent. By adjusting the wind flow behind the windshield you reduce or eliminate the buffeting effect at speed.

Fishrrman,

I have no problems with my wind splitter windshield. I feel it works well. I'm 5'6" and can easily see over the windshield. I have little buffeting. I wear a Shoei full face, a half helmet or no helmet at all, depending on the state and the area. I think it is a good design.

Like 'oldmanwayne' said, it is very sensitive to adjustment. An 1/8 of an inch can make a difference. Most of the time I adjust the 'Air Duct Vane' so I'm looking at the edge and can not see any sides. This seems to be the best set up for me. (I think the manual actually recommends this)

I do notice a difference if the vent is closed or opened too far.

I'm happy with mine.
