I ran across this numerous times and I am experiencing it on my brand new 2007 FLHRSE3 where the engine hasa pinging sound. I have read the TSB M-1186 dated November 20, 2006 - ECM CALIBRATION UPGRADE FOR 2007 BIG TWINS (PRODUCT PROGRAM 0903).
It states it covers CVO bikes, but does not specifically list the Road King. It does list the Touring OEM CVO, is it listed generically under this section?
I hear the pinging in 1-4 gears and barely on 5th or 6th. This is a brand new bike, so still in the break-in period.
Has anyone else had the flash performed, what was your outcome before and after the software upgrade?
bpalmersheim,
I had slight engine noise and when I took SE Road King for 1000 mile check up was told that the SE oil that is used is thinner and I can expect to hear some lifter noise. Sounded plausable to me so not going to worry about it.
Enjoy the ride,

I have the same bike and had the flash performed and I donât recall a decrease in pinging, I received a notice from factory in the mail suggesting it, and I believe if you punch your VIN in the following link it will also suggest it. I never thought the pinging was excessive, and still notice it once in a while but I just figured it is the nature of the beast. Perhaps I have just become accustomed to it or it is now somewhat muffled by louder pipes. The biggest difference I noticed with the flash was the ability to go a little lower in the rpm band without serious chugging.
Is it definately a ping or is it a rattle? If it is between 2300 - 3100 rpm it is more than likely a rockerbox - valve train clearance issue, notorious on the 07 110". Easy fix though, just demand that your dealer inspects it . It is real evedent once the boxs are removed. If it is definately a ping, just disregard the above.BTW. my dealer tried to tell me the same thing. Remind him that the cam height is too low and the durration is way too short to cause any noise! Just my 2 cents
