I have an 07 softail, but am looking at the 08 cvo springer. I just called Milwaukee 1-414-343-4056, and they said they have fixed the rear cylinder oil leak due to a seal. They said it took place a month before this date. She told me that there has been a problem before but it should be fixed now! She kept it short and told me about a month back they changed the rear seal.
I also called my dealer and asked the service dept. if they have had any 110 in CVO in for oil leaks....he said no. I even called another dealer and they say they have had some rear oil seals leaking.
Those with some heat issues should try some AMSOIL. Its the best.
I tried AMSOIL and it didn't help the bike run any cooler. I am sure it holds up better to high temps' but it didn't contribute to cooling the motor at all. The best way I lowered the operating temp was by richening up theAFR by delivering more fuel.
My shop has warrenty replaced 2 cvo 110 motors within the last 10 months. The motor co. has not issued a bulliten on them, and probably will not if they haven't by now. Both circumstances resulted in broken oil pumps, and crankshafts being .020" + out. (The fly wheels going out of true most likely was the cause, but the motor co. remins tight lipped). Anyway, they overnighted both motors as soon as we told them about the bent cranks!
Can someone tell me what the SERT is. And at what temp are the people having overheating problem running?
I just sold my 2002 custom fatboy which never had a problem in 30,000 miles and ordered an08 SE springer. You guys are making me more than a little nervous with all the problems you're having.
Are these issues being seen in 08 models, or is it mostly before 08? I have a 08 SEUC with 1000 miles on it and haven't noticed anything yet. However, it does have minor motor "noise". Anything specific I should be looking for?
I changed the oil on my 110 over the weekend, I found 5 pieces of medal about the size of 1/8 of a bb. This was at 300mi on the engine and the highest temp I had seen was 256 deg. with dino oil.
I cut the filter apart and didn't find any more medal, changed oil with sync3 and after this weekend will be ready for the 1 K oil change and dyno.
Needless to say I'm watching this closely.
I've been a HD owner for the past 35 years and love their bikes. I've gotten to the point however that I will do what I have to to make the two I own right but won't likely be buying any new ones anytime soon.
Paying the freight for a SE and then seeing all the problems reported would make me ballistic BTW, went to take the rear wheel off my FLST today and the axle is frozen. I understand from my INDY friend and mechanic that this is prevalent. SoI'm off to the dealer tomorrow to let them deal with it on the rear tire replacement. I thought never seize was supposed to be in place to prevent these problems.
Follow up on my 700 mi ride this weekend.
I hit the magic 500mi on the odemeter Sat morning as I was leaving Choo Choo headed south on I-75 riding with a friend who had just got done doing a 95 upgrade in a 06 FLTHC.
Fifth gears pulls seemed in order so we cranked'm from 80mph, after about 3 times he caught back up with me and told me I was #1. (I guess thats what he ment because he was only waving with 1 finger).
Bike ran good the rest of the weekend until I was within 10 miles of the house! Starting hearing what sounds like noise from the road (kinda like where they've ground the road down. Pulled the cluth in varied the throttle, hit the brakes ect nothing changed the sound or pitch of the noise.
Got home and stopped I could hear it real plain. The noise sounds like its coming from behind the air cleaner. Don't know what it is yet going to take it to the Dealer tomorrow and let them find it and do the 1k service.
I was wanting to do the air box and put my D & D Fat Cats on w/ the sert and dyno but I don't want to do that until I see that I have a good build.
