I've got a '14. I bought it with 25K on the clock in May. It's got over 40K now, 5 months later.

Would the upgrade to the 117, the bolt on version from Harley, alleviate the issues? Yeah, it's something like 3K to install including the parts but that's a hell of a lot cheaper than having to buy a new bike.

The dealer. Parts:

Screamin' Eagle Bolt-On 117 Cubic Inch Street Performance Kit
Part Number 92500054
$2095.95

and about 1,600 for labor.

Okay, 3500. Still would that take care of the problems?

I have heard the cylinder walls may be to thin and create hot spots. And then things get all out of round and problems get worse.Just ask your local dealer if they have heard about it. I did and that's what they told me.

sorry about bumping an old thread.. but i'm contemplating buying my 1st HD a 2016 CVO Breakout 117 with 14k on the clock.

From the issues i've read about the 110 the 117 should be more reliable correct? is this bike with the 117 a good buy at that mileage or should i look for something with less?

Default Engine failure lifter problem

My Low rider s 2017 had total engine failure where lifter shattered, pieces went to oil pan, now replacing longblock. 29k miles. Also had many issues with this bike, my friends make fun of my bike and Harley Davidson reliability. However, if you ride it, you may consider putting up with it because the torque it gives, by far best bike I’ve had. But I hear Milwaukee 8 has less vibration, more comfortable, hear its a better engine. Milwaukee 8 114 also gives out about 10lbs more torque

if you are only going to ride a few thousand miles per year you may not experience any problems with the 110, however if you ride 15 to 20 k a year you probably will experience engine failure due to some inherent design problems.

problem areas include, inferior lifters over heavy valve springs, steep cam profiles, heat and shoddy valve guides/seals.

so, if your target bike has more than 10k on the clock and has no service history these have been replaced with better parts, my advice run don't walk away from the deal.

my 110 experienced engine failure at 18k miles due to lifter failure

Go for it, it's a good motor, so far. 47K with not one problem. I ride it hard. Every 3K oil change. Stock.

I have a 150K on my 14 CVO Ultra. Had lifter failure at 20k on the back jug then at 23 on the front one. Rode trouble free to 90K when the cam chain broke and scrambled the engine... They replaced it under ESP and I have been trouble free since 90K

My dad has been ridden over 30k miles on a 2010 110 with zero issues, traded for a 2013 cvo he had almost 40k on that when he traded for his 2015 and his 15 has over 50k on it without a single issue.
I am on my second 110 and it's just over 12k, my first had 19k when i sold it. I am sure some people have had issues but the group I ride with has 7-8 CVO sporting 110's and no one has seen any issues.

I bought my '13 CVO Ultra new and I've only had two warranty claims (both under the ESP) one voltage regulator and one radio until refurbished.

At the 1,000 mile service, I had Rinehart XT True Duals installed, with the Stage 1 kit and a dyno tune.
I installed the Wards Fans on it and runs as my T/C88 did after the Big Bore "95" Kit was installed.

Last year, after reading so many horror stories about inferior lifters, I had my lifters replaced at 33,000 miles.
Even though my ESP was still in effect I didn't want to risk an engine failure and the "peace of mind" was well worth the out of pocket cost.

My bike(s) are serviced at, or well before the 5,000 mile recommended schedule and I rarely exceed 4000 RPM's.

I will say that my engine sounds much better after the new lifters but from Day 1, this bike had an "interesting rattle" under light acceleration near the 3000 RPM mark.

I keep my bikes a long time and I'm sure that with two more bikes to ride, this 110 will last me unless I decide to sell it at some point in time.
