Dealer's invoice was for 7qt.

Service Manual states 5 qt for Engine and Filter, 34 oz for Primary and 32 oz for Transmission. That equals 7 qt and 2 oz. Therefore they charged me for less oil than the Service Manual states.

I assume because the LCD Dipstick is Harley-Davidson that it is correct; see below page from their Instruction Sheet.

Also. Page 128 of the FLHTKSE Owners manual has instruction under Oil Level Hot Check.
That is a very bad Assumption. That dipstick is a piece of Junk. Had one replace four times in 7 months. The fifth time I just through it in the trash. LCD would go out, or Temp would be way off or level would be way off.

You are correct; it was a bad assumption! I missed the "Made In China" but I did keep the OEM and won't buy another if this one goes south

For what it's worth:

My dealer is changing my engine oil and transmission oil ever 2500 miles as part of the prepaid maintenance up to the 15k service. They asked me to NOT add any oil. Seems to be a way for them to monitor the bike regarding sumping and transfer. I have see it down just slightly, but when they do the check for sumping it is always within the acceptable range.

First I've seen a dealer actually take an initiative regarding the sumping issue.

I put in 4 quarts at each oil change (manual recommendation) and occasionally check the cold level to make sure it is not changing significantly and staying within range. Like a previous post, it is not rocket science.

You should see oil at cold on the stick as marked on most. These engines are relatively hot running and like Power steering and automatic transmissions, a hot level is too mark on stick. Some run it middle but in my opinion, hot at top is fine.

If motor was truely low enough to hurt it, it was obiviously low when cold. I did not know Harley's had a feature that killed the motor with low oil pressure. Some cars do. It has a light for sure and is easy to not see during the day. They could be just padding their bill telling you he hurt the motor.

You also even the cold check should be start it and let it idle a minute and cut it off. Give it a minute and check especially bikes like old Softails since thry tend to drain down. On those, you can actually get too much in them.

Some cars are even crazy like that. RIPs 2016 Subie needs to be started and then let set for a few minutes. If not done, it will appear too high. It has a verticle top up filter on top of motor. I guess it runs down if let set a few days.
