Hi guys new to the form with a new bike and issues. Hope someone has solved some of these. 07 SERK with the following, rush slip ons, power programmer and some chrome goodies. After break in tune up the following conditions are hanging around. Bike sometimes is very hard to crank ( 6 to 8 sec) sometimes spits back thru the breather. At times you can rev it up out of gear and it sound like it is detonating. Doesn't always do this. Shop has the bike now going to put it back on the dyno. Any ideas on this. I heard some folks say the Rush pipes and other the programmer but nothing solid. The other day I was leaving a stop sign, rolled about 20 feet in first fairly smooth and then it spit so hard it shut off. Almost threw me on the ground. Next issue there is a huge amount of air at highway speed comming from somewhere. It bangs my head and glasses much worse than if there was no windscreen on the bike at all. I thought it was comming over the screen so I bought a taller one. No luck, I was told it is comming off the tank or somewhere low and comming straight up. Any ideas how to fix? Also, since I added the running lights and relocated the turn signals I now have a whistle from the front. Now is I could Harley to fix the tank where the turn signal banged it................HELP!
I bet you used a Power commander, Right? Those things stink. Everyone I know that has used one including myself, has had slow starting and bucking issues. I took mine off and am now using the SERT, extra time to tune but far superior. Don't just take my word for it, ask any real serious performance shop. I have no real wind issues with my 07 SERK, not sure what that is all about.
Re: wind issue: Do you have your feet up on highway pegs when you have the wind problem?If I am riding in a strong head-wind or cross-windwhen I have my feet up on the highway pegs I get a lot of wind off my feet...enough to blow my sunglasses and cap off.
I have a Power Commander on my Ultraglide and, so far, it is working great. My bike startsvery easy - usuallystartsthe first or second time it turns over.One thing aboutthe Power Commander is that you can't use the "cookie cutter" programs and expect your bike to perform at it's best. You have to spend the money to have it dyno tuned.
I hope to get an 08 SE Ultraglide in the next week or so. I have not decided yet if I will go with the SERT or Power Commander on the new bike. I have heard good things about the SERT.
Big Lew;
Like you and pretty much everyone else who went with a SERK CVO, I couldn't stand the buffeting from the short stock windshield. IT IS THE WINDSHIELD causing this turbulence. You found this out when comparing the ride without the windshield on. You say a taller windshield didn't help -- how much taller?
I'm 5'9" and went with a 4" taller (than stock which is 14" height measured from the headlight cutout up) aftermarket windshield with what's called a 'recurve' at the top edge from Clearview (in Colorado). This shield has ELIMINATED the buffeting effect around my eyes and forehead..
Yes, there is still a lot of air moving around me, but it no longer dribbles my eyewear and head to the point of not wanting to ride for very long.

New to the SERK board. Traded my '04 WG in for an '07 Razor Red SERK. I've looked at the CVO forum and it seems that the "problems" are only being reported by a couple of guys. I only have a few hundred miles on my bike and I'm about to ride it over 1,000 miles to Sturgis, so I'm counting on this $30,000 machine holding up!
I got a lot worse buffeting with the WG, so I'm happy with the short windshield.
I have 9500 miles on my 07 SERK and this is what Iâve experienced with the turbulence problem.
Take off the POS wind deflector that comes on it, it does nothing but funnel the wind right to your face. Iâm 6â2â and replaced mine with a 19 inch Clearview and it works pretty well.
The wind buffeting is coming from under the windshield, which is substantiated by holding your legs tight to the tank which greatly reduces the turbulence.
Installing one of these Air Baffle will slightly reduce the buffeting.
Installing a set of these Wind deflectors does a great job of eliminating the buffeting. They just look tacky, like a chrome Danforth anchor hanging on your front end. I install mine for cooler weather and take them off when it gets warm.[/ol]
The whistling problem has been discussed in the Road King section of cvoharley.com and I believe the source and a solution was found, it just escapes me right now.
