In 09 when I started buying CVO bikes, 7 of them so far there was a lot more difference between the CVO and the model it was based on. Also up though about 17 CVO held it value better of trade than it does now. They also started removing things, My 09 CVO RG came with passenger back rest, quick detach hardware. My 2012 did not have that. Then they removed CB's, and recently removed XM. Engine size kept getting close to the Special models, and now its no bigger than the ST models. All the while the price keeps going up. Crazy adding 3000 on top of MSRP for paint. Un like regular models no choice between blacked out or Chrome, you take the finish that comes with that color. Then you get a CVO paint color released on other bike, Gunship Gray.
Not sure the uniqueness, the extras, and the motor are now worth the extra 15K or more. When I bought my first CVO it was only a 10K step up an you got a whole lot more. Now its 15K or more step up and you only get a little more.
HD kicked the cvo owners of this color right in the gooch with this color now offered on a special, come on HD .gotta look after the people who dropped huge money on your exclusive model!!!!!
Depends on the one you are looking at. They start around $41,900 CVO SG/RG and 44,900 CVO RGL then $650 shipping and $1,000 surcharge. I think the trike is $49k plus shipping and surcharge.
Some dealers will make up, dealer in Northern VA has 2 used 2021 CVO RG asking $49,900. Theyve had them several months.
When the dealer in Winchester VA is asking $47k for a 2022 blue steel cvo streetglide, that says a lot. I've never known this dealer to jack up prices before.

That's not unusual. HD has been doing that with all of their bikes. My '17 RGS Hard Candy Hot Rod Metal Flake paint was a $3K add-on. The Laguna Orange at the time was a $2K upgrade. It isn't just CVO bikes.

The problem is its never been done on the cvo line! Thats kinda the whole point of paying 15k over the standard models. The upcharge of 3k on a 24k bike is much more bearable than it is on a 43k bike, the 43k bike should have the best of the best paint included!

My wife and I have the 1st '22 CVO Tri-Glide available on-hold at the local dealership to go look at. 50K before surchage, doc fees, and other B.S. We're thinking of trading in our '21s (Tri-Glide & CVO Street Glide) for the new trike.

One of the CVO Road glides is 41,899. The other two are 44,899 or 3 K more.
Now add the 1000 surcharge, the Freight of 650. You are at 46,549. Now you have to add sales tax, and registration. If you're lucky and have no doc fees then you are knocking hard on 50K or over depending on the sate.
It’s clear the new marketing/business strategy for Harley is to limit volume, raise prices and improve margins. This is similar to what GM has done with the Corvette or even what a brand like Porsche does. They have decided to abandon models like the Street that don’t have the margins they are looking for and they have also cut custom features across the board to save on manufacturing costs. The overuse of flat paints, black powder coating, removing the hydraulic clutch and other subtle changes have made the bikes much more generic and boring IMHO. Look at the Sotail lineup and not a single bike with real leather bags. Look at the fake oil tank. Most of the Softails have generic trim and design features…the Twin Cam Softails had unique stitching, trim and leather accents that set them apart.
Look at the CVO paint upcharge…on top of the surcharge! Detailed and colorful paint was a main selling point for a CVO…now you have to pony up $3K more. What a bunch of BS…
At this point, I don’t know if I will buy another new Harley. I really want an M8 powered CVO Road King in orange/black and was hoping 2022 would bring one. It didn’t happen so its a moot point but if they so bring one in the future, I will not buy if the price is beyond reasonable or if they upcharge the paint. I can afford any bike they offer and have bought a lot of new Harleys over the years, but I cannot stomach the feeling of being gouged. I would rather buy used and feel like it was a fair deal for both parties. Oh…I would never pay more than MSRP either. If a dealer charges more than MSRP, I won’t even buy a poker chip from them.
