Default If They Build it, They will Charge

I was told by the Harley SM that New SE bikes (and all the rest for that matter)are shipped to the dealer and the shop mustbuild them. I assumed he meant "assemble/prep them" butwhat exactlymust they do? Is there any special prep they do for the SE Ultras? Lastly, wouldn't the assembly fee be negotiable?

ps. if these Q's belong elsewhere, Mod, could you move it and let me know where it goes?

(ooo...set myself up for a wacky comment there, huh?)

The UC's all come in the box without the windshield installed. Dealer has to install that, and then a pre-delivery service, check oil levels, tires, belt tension, etc.,, Basically anything that has to be left off so it'll fit in the standard box on the skid the dealer has to install. Set-up prep charge. If you can get any dealer to negotiate that, you've done well, grasshopper. I wouldn't count on it.

If you look around I have found a handful of dealers that do not charge setup or freight. But they will defiantly let you know they don't so haggling on price is a little harder. Either way they will find a way to get their $$$ out of your pocket.
