On the day I picked up my Screamin' Eagle Softail Springer from the dealer last October, they took me around to the service department, the motorclothes area, and the parts counter. They introduced me to everyone from the service manager to the guy that cleans the restrooms. Before they handed me over the keys, they asked me, "Wouldn't you like to put some new pipes on that will make your ride sound even better?" I didn't do it then, but not long after I got the 500 page parts catalog in the mail and the Harley Enthusiast magazine that had the article about the Screamin' Eagle Slip-ons, I decided that yes, I did want my Harley to sound more like ...a Harley. I purchased the "legal in 50 states" SE Slip-ons. Yeah, they looked better than the slightly too long stock pipes of the 07 FXSTSSE- and they sounded way better. The bike runs fine with 'em- but I thought I better get my ECM re-mapped. So I call the dealer, and well... they said that my warranty could be voided because I put on the SE slip-ons... and the they won't re-map my ECM. They wished me luck and quickly hung up. Why I oughta...! For the first time, I feel betrayed by the HD corporate marketing machine. Why beg and entice me to accessorize my ride- but then slam the door on my face when I ask to get my ECM re-mapped as it suggests in the parts catalog? I recently installed a PCM III that I got from Fuel Moto- but it had a strange chirping or ping sound upon quick acceleration from a low idle. It also gave me a bit of hesitation unless I throttled up slower- Not impressed. After the test ride I took it off as soon as the bike cooled down enough. It runs good the way it is- If I need to, maybe I'll go to Dougs Motorcycle Repair in San Mateo and have him tweak my ECM. He worked wonders with my old 90 FXR- and had more integrity than the dealer. Just venting y'all.
If Doug knows how to to install a Thundermax have him do it. If not maybe you don't want him messing with the ECM.
The differance between the PCIII and the Thundermax is astounding!
Yeah- that's all I've done. If I don't have to re-map at this point that would be great- and like I said it's been running fine since I added the slip-ons. Thanks for the advice. It's much appreciated.

maybe you didn't run it long enough?
I just got back from helping a friend install 2.25" rush slip-ons and a PCIII on his '04 fatboy.
his made that chirping sound when we first fired it up after everything was installed, and it also hesitated when reving the engine, we let it run for about 5 or 10 minutes and the chirping slowly disappeared and it revs perfectly smooth with quick throttle response!
He took it for a ride and is VERY happy with the power that it has now (as well as the sound!), he said that the throttle response is very quick and "snappy".
