Default ECM Code P165500 2023.5 CVO

Rode over to the dealer I use to have the 20K service done and the Recall done. The recall is for the red voltage regulator wire may rub. They also replace the front tire. It is 56 miles to the dealer. On the ride home about 15 miles from the dealer the voltage gage started bouncing between 11 and 15 volts. So it will have to go back to have regulator checked. About half way home 27 miles or so the Yellow triangle with the ! in it came on. A few miles later it went out. Then it came back on for the rest of the ride. About 15 miles from home the bike gets a horrendous Knocking under load, but sounds fine no load. I'm looking for a safe place to pull over, I have gone about 2~3 miles and it goes back to normal, no knock under load. So I ride the rest of the way home.

Checked the bike for Codes. It has an ECM code P165500. Did several internet searches trying to figure out what the road is for. One result was Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Range/Performance. Causes: faulty cam position sensor, damaged wiring to sensor, issue with ECM. This can cause timing issues. Another result was Cam position actuator failure or fault.

I believe either could be the issue. In My decades of riding I have never heard a knock like that. But the internet gives many results for that code.

Check the tightness of your battery cables and your Maxi Fuse for tightness in its holder. Tech may have pulled the fuse to work on your bike and did not get it back in all the way. Easy stuff first, may save a trip to the dealer.

It’s fu@king amazing how you take a perfect running bike for a recall at a dealer, and leave with all sorts of issues, I stay away from service departments period.. I’d be willing to bet that you had an actual rub on that wiring and during the recall tie down they severed some wire causing your Issue..

The 2023.5 CVO has an all new ECM. It's also a 2nd Gen M8.

Could be the same thing for the DTC. Internet search shows three possibility's , ACR, Cam position sensor and cam actuator. I have not been able to find the DTC list for the 2023.5 or 24 CVO 121 VVT.

Thank you

@Vernal You were correct front cylinder ACR.

Road over to the dealer yesterday for the P165500 Code and to load test my battery as bike wont start when cold. Also to check the fluctuating volt meter. Also have the the recent 1-27-2025 Skyline OS software update.

ACR tested good. Software updated. Battery load tested good. Dealer test rode bike, no issues.

Put my gear on, start bike, check engine light come on. Shut bike off, get service writer to come out. Code P165500, so they now have an ACR on order. Restart bike CarPlay will not load, an issue the new software was to fix. Two attempts and it loads. Riding home the Voltmeter is fixed, very steady. Stop for gas, First power up, CarPlay won't load Turn off try again and it loads.

It was a beautiful ride to and from dealer, 112 miles round trip.

This morning 48 degrees in my garage an my bike will not start.

Not knowing what you mean by bike won't start, could it be the ACR isn't opening?
