If you're talking about a semi open or totally open belt drive primary themain downsideis that they are a little noisy with a bit of a ding-a- ling sound with the clutch pulled in. Also if you abuse the clutch too much it'll fry the plates. Other than that they're very reliable. The really wide units can limit your cornering clearance too. I have a 3" BDL unit on my bike and the one thing that I really don't like about it is that I can't use mid controls which I prefer to the front controls I have now. Front controls look cool and stretch out your legs but they put you in an unnatural position for really haulin butt around the twisities. Pot holes and dips put a big jolt on your butt and spine cuz you can't use your legs as suspension units too. My bike has 28k on it and no problems so far.

Thanks Big Mack for the input, i checked with the 3 harley dealers in my area and no one could come up with any kits made for my bike, so I have contacted bdl and asked for there help to determine what i need, or what i need to have custom made.

I had a primo belt drive on my evo back in the day. It was totally enclosed except for the vented covers I put on it.I had to change out the clutch basket and the front sprocket and install a bearing in the inner primary. It is the way to go. No more primary fluid. No adjustment nada. You will not regret it. Money well spent. I will doit again when I get a few more miles on my twin cam. You do have to remove theouter and inner primary. SoI changed out the tranny sprocket and the drive belt at the time since I had it apart.
