happened twice now though i think its my fault. went riding over the weekend with the guys and my check engine light came on while i was sitting at a couple lights. it was only about 4-5 minutes tops.the reason why i think it is my fault is that i put v&h short shots and installed a zippers thundermax ecm i was hoping someone out there had any similar experiences or some insight.
Yes I also have a 2007 ultra classic screeming eagle that sucks. You can't ride it in any traffic or it over heats. I also put a thundermax on the bike thinking that would solve the proplem wrong. Thundermax guys put it on there laptop in Florida and said the bike was running at 410 degrees which it should run about 270 degrees. The problem is Harley Davison designed this wrong when they shortened the cooling fins on the back head they created a big problem but will not fix it . If they don't get my bike fixed right I will never buy another Harley. If anyone has any info PLEASE E-Mail me at kenthetowman@aol.com.
I have a 2008 screamin eagle springer. I have rush mufflers and a screamin eagle race tuner. These are the only performance additions. It never overheats (Live in Louisiana) and runs like a bat out of hell. I have a good friend with a screamin eagle ultra, he has the screamin eagle race tuner too. No problems with heat on his either.
i am surprised that i am haveing this issue since i have no farings to deal with. I have read a little about the heating problems but then i thought the t-max would help with that. I have a request in to zippers so hopefully i get a quick response and i give an update.
best bet is to install both an oil cooler w/fan AND an engine fan that mounts @ the horn location and blows between the cylinders.
The 10 row oil cooler will help when the bike is moving and the twin fans mounted on the cooler will function thermostatically. The engine fan will also work thermostatically and help keep those temps under control.
The problem lies in the design of the 110" engine, it's simply too large a piston in too thin of a cylinder and will never have a quick fix. People that go from 88" to 98" and 96" to 107" have similar problems.
Just added a power commander and stage 1. cooled the bike down. it cost $400 but at least I can ride in DC traffic and not worry about the heat from the engine. I can almost touch the rear pipe it so cool. I have new true duel pipes but I may return them because I dont really need them.
I really think its due to the O2 sensors, power commander knocks them out. The bike use to slug of the line when the bike got hot, no more the power commander fixed that.
I got the power commander for $279 and the big sucker stage 1 for $103.
