2007 FXDSE2 Engine Tapping Sound..Advice needed
I have a 2007 FXDSE2 which is connected to my nervous system when I ride, just a perfect ride for me in the Blue Ridge Mountains and on twisty mountain roads. Always a smile at the end of a ride. I have the recall mods done at 2,000 miles; I have about 6,000 on the FXDSE2. For the past 1500 miles I hear a tapping sound...not very pronounced but still there, especially at lower RPM's. I took it to the shop for a valve adjustment and they said it has hydraulic valves which can't be adjusted, that was after a test ride. They also said that the engine, once broken in, should have a slight tapping noise (???...did not read that in any manual). My warrantee is up in 6 months. My dealership has always been the best to me and the people there are always helpful and polite.
Any advice?

When did your tapping sound start? Not sure if I should be concerned. Mine started after a 5-6 hour trip...hardly noticed it but it has gotten progressively louder and is a constant now. Jim

probably about 400 to 500 miles ago. I notice it when it is really hot. When the oil gets thinned out due to heat. I also notice it my dads ultra and when it starts tapping the oil pressure gauge is at zero presure...so if you are that worried about it take it to another dealer to get it looked at

eAGLE tAPPING
I've got 27,000 on my 07FXDSE and have noticed slight tapping from time to time but never had any problems. I make sure my oil level is right and just thank the Good Lord for giving me the insight to buy the extended warranty (all recall work was done around 10K miles). I just did 1400 miles from DC to the Maggie Valley / Ashville area and the rides through the Smokies are nothing short of spectacular. Keep enjoying your ride.
